  • Edwardstone out tomorrow at Warwick - can anyone see him priced up anywhere for the Arkle? Think he could easily prove best of the British and wouldn’t mind getting him onside for small stakes before he runs.

His jumping on chasing debut was absolutely dreadful the other week

I don’t recall that WTL, thought he jumped OK and was tanking when brought down…

My bad I was thinking of another horse which I had to remind myself who it was and that was Milkwood. Pretty much the same horse over hurdles haha 150 7 year old

Just watched it back though and he wasn't that good at the first few fences. In close to the first two then went through the third. TTL is much better than him over his fences

          • They gave him a chase start at Donny last year and he unseated, then went immediately back over hurdles which is why if he doesn’t take to fences I don’t think they’ll hesitate getting him back over timber and if they do he could become competitive in a champion hurdle (places).
Will be watching with interest tomorrow…

He doesn’t look a natural to me and can see him back over hurdles. Really looking forward to see Boothill over a fence next week. Big brute who’s made for the game. Appreciate it by far the most likely winner though.

              • I’ve gone in on Dusart after cashing him out a while ago although after his defeat at Aintree he drifted to 25/1 so lost a little with the cashout anyway.

Now he looks to be going over fences…..again (not actually been over any), he’s one you have to back imo. Entered in the same race Nicky uses for his good ones including Altior and Shishkin. Watched UTA quickly as well and DJ seems to have done the rounds with the best of the UK trainers and said he was really taken with the way he attacked his fences schooling. The thing for me is he has any amount of potential having only had 2 starts. Arkle typically small fields so if we’re calling Appropriate It or Ferny from WPM as most likely winner at this stage, who are much shorter, then 25/1 about a horse who could even go close to winning it is worth it and he’ll be the best of the UK imo.

Got the job done well enough. You would have to be pleased with that.

                  • I doubt he has the ability to win this but Edwardstone just hacked up at Warwick, he beat a Skelton horse rated 135 over timber by 10l giving that one 8lb so
I'll mark that down as a smart performance.
I couldn't see an Arkle quote before yesterday hopefully a few will price him up now...

                    • Edwardstone 25/1 with 365 and Skybet.
Not entirely surprised but in my mind I thought 40/1 would be a fair price...

If you made a comparison to Third Time Lucki's price I'd say 25's is probably plenty fair enough. We have a line on the form through their County Hurdle run too, albeit a different discipline, but Edwardstone had to give TTL 5lbs that day and still finished a head ahead of him. He is going to be 8, so maybe that's a reason for the price, but would seem a weak reason, IMHO.

The other option is he could well go up in trip. He's bred to go further and his one 2m 4f was one not without hope, so the Marsh is a possibility.

This was the basis of my liking Edwardstone for the Arkle, but only at the right price.
The fact he wasn't quoted anywhere before today suggests bookies never considered him a viable challenger so to go from not being considered to a 25/1 shot after a class 3 novice chase win does surprise me but as we know they're not in the game to throw gifts around.
As for Third Time Lucki, I saw someone was 7/1 earlier which for me is just about the worst price of every horse quoted for the festival...

Yeah, I was happy to back TTL at double figure odds, but I couldn't entertain the price cut since his last run, really poor. It's not as if he sauntered home on the snaff.

As for Edwardstone, it will be interesting to see where they head next with him.

                            • It's very interesting how people view races differently. I was hugely impressed with TTL at the weekend. His jumping was immaculate . The rest of the field just couldn't go quick enough for him. He took it up out in the countryside and destroyed them there. They were all rowing away and he was cruising along jumping for fun in front. Yes, he got tired on the run in but he was entitled to as he won his race long before. No way was CTC going to get anywhere near him when he fell. He was a tired horse like the rest. A faster pace in an Arkle would help TTL a lot but I'd like him to go from the front, jump them silly then see what they have in reserve to try and go past him. He is a very exciting horse and his round of jumping, especially 'that' incredible leap, was just a joy to watch. Its what NH racing is all about for me.
