  • I hear what everyone is saying re the Arkle being weak. I just feel TTL is being massively overrated for one good (first time out) and one decent (second time out). Unless you think the division is going to be extremely poor then I just don't see it (unless you really rate Captain Tom Cat who'd have been within 3 lengths imo). I don't think TTL is a better horse than Allmankind and he got put in his place at the festival.

Pretty much agree with all that, although settling better would help him at the business end no doubt.
Hes proved he can jump very well,in fact not seen many better 2m novice jumpers at the start of their career over fences.
For me its purely a case of whether hes good enough against the likes of AI. And thats where the prices come in.
Hes short enough now imo, but anyone who got in before yesterday or earlier should be quiet happy i would think.
Main thing for me is hes a good jumper and acts round cheltenham.
We cannot say the same about any other candidate at this stage.

I'm not sure he had that much in the tank on the run-in? I wouldn't fancy him in a battle. If CTC (essentially a handicapper) had stayed on his feet it could have been less than emphatic. Im super confident TTL will NOT be winning The Arkle. One other worry for anyone backing English trained horses (Hendo exception) is that they may well run away looking for an easier target???

          • That might put Magic Daze back in the mix for this.
Jumped well and pulled well clear without coming off the bridle, not a strong field but there was a 133 rated horse in there who was 20l back...

the 133 rated horse is a National horse though !!
              That race was shit.
              But she did fine.

Granted needs further but ran behind Black Tears over 20f last season and she proved herself to be the best mare in training.
I'd say Magic Daze was a shade better than fine there, be interesting to see the RPRs, likely to be very close to what Third Time Lucki achieved yesterday....

She beat proper stayers and rubbish.
Racing Post ratings are not my cup of tea.
                  Don't fancy TTL either.

Black Tears best mare in training ?
And ran behind a 123 rated mare at the same time.

Was just a jog round for her, wait and see when she is stepped into grade 3 or listed level I reckon.

Shouls have said best hurdling mare in training not called Honeysuckle.
Like all novices the step up in class is what makes/breaks them but she isn't the forlorn hope she was half an hour ago...

                    • The Dusart comments above have hooked up me in, I didn't want to back too many English horses following last years dominance by the Irish. But Nicky Henderson does know a thing or two about 2 mile chasers, and if the comments about Dusart are correct, you'd be a fool not to take 25/1 currently available and so I have . Third Time Lucki looks impressive but thats just because he's the first we've seen this season, when the big guns get there 2 milers out the outlook will change dramatically.

I like the look of Dusart over fences too, the only thing I don't get is all summer and early season Nicky has been banging the drum of staying over hurdles for experience and the need for 2 and half, so it may well be needed to cover him off in Marsh too. Would be prime for any race but with how everything's been priced in that market this season you'll probably get something daft like evens.

                        • At the moment with Hendo runners, I'm fully prepared to take the shorter price after they've run, but insure I have an element of Hendo Bullshit Insurance

                          • I must have completely missed the up to date Henderson comments re Dusart. What's been said that we now all think he's going chasing? Pretty much screwed up my Arkle betting slip before reading the latest posts in here

It's schooling time. Dusart is a gorgeous-looking beast and he is popped over five fences by Nico de Boinville, alongside Bothwell Bridge. You would swear they had both been doing this all their lives. Slick, neat and natural.

Dusart is "a proper horse" according to Henderson and the intention is to start him over fences at Kempton on Monday week. It is obviously too early to be making silly comparisons but I do want to point out it is the same novice chase in which Altior beat Black Corton by 63 lengths back in 2016.

Now, once again, I don't want to be getting ahead of myself but he is 25-1 for the Arkle. From what I saw in his, albeit snappy, schooling session, those are very generous odds indeed. De Boinville was effusive in his praise afterwards, and was very happy with Buzz too who jumped a few hurdles to get his eye in after winning the Cesarewitch.

Jennings was as Seven Barrows a few days ago mate.
