I wonder has any horse at (in and around) 66/1 had so much talk about them on the forum than Magic Daze lately - Feels like she’s popping up everywhere (I say this now posting myself about her

No harm in throwing up 66/1 shots. A festival 2nd, regardless of what race that is in warrants some consideration. But for me once the season really kicks into gear, certainly for the Arkle she’ll get very little mention, and for good reason. She’s one of the first runners out. Fast forward a month when more come out and she wouldn’t get half as much of a mention.

The Arkle has often thrown up small fields. So it’s a race to absolutely get on some outsiders, especially if building a book or betting EW. The owners have given an indication that this race could be the aim. But there’s one thing stating targets now, and another justifying and warranting your place come March.

I also think using Put the Kettle On as an example of her lining up in the race is very suspect. She would have been lining up on the Novices Handicap later that day if Henry had his way. It’s not tended to be the way he campaigns his typical Arkle prospects. There’s still a small bit of 33/1 for Ballyadam going around. Who is entered up in a common race for HdB. I’d take half the price for Ballyadam over Magic Daze all day long, and Ballyadam has enough to make up with the fav let alone the mare.

I’d be surprised if she’s anything but a runner to make up the numbers, if she lined up in the race at all.

One from left field from my original shortlist in March.

      23/03/2021

Gars En Noir – Willie Mullins – Arkle/Marsh
It is rare for Willie to purchase a young horse that was too old for juveniles and not a novice for a full season either. I think the reason behind this is that his future lies over fences and this season was just being used to acclimatise to the Mullins way. I will be ignoring his debut for the yard and I am not worried by his lack of visits to the track since. By Masked Marvel, who has done reasonably well with his early progeny, he looks like he is sharp enough for shorter trips.

Haven't watched any of the racing today but just looked at results from Fairyhouse and saw that Gordon's Riviere D'tel won her beginners chase by 11 lengths! Surprised nothing has been mentioned on here or the Mares Chase chat??? Was she impressive?

33/1 for the mares chase is worth a punt

Jumped nicely and came clear easily from what I saw, although I only had half an eye on it.

Kennedy's comments post-race were interesting: 'She's a lovely prospect getting all the allowances'
Obviously has the 4yo allowance and mares allowance available, so the comment seems to imply she will be up against the boys soon rather than the Mares Chase route?

Really need to find the time to get a handle on the distance profiles of these NH sires!

The way she races i'd be surprised if they're in a rush to be going up in trip.

Only 2 of the 11 runners in the Mares Chase were novices last season. One of course was the winner but she was a seriously good mare and trained by the master of that sex. I’d be wary about backing any novice for it once again this year

If Gin On Lime went for the race would you make an exception for her as she's now had 7 chase runs and likely to have at least 1 more before March.

We’ve only had 1 renewal and novices have a 100% record. Who’s to say they won’t dominate the race going forward?
Gordon’s got riviere d’etel out early enough to gain lots of chasing experience too!

                              Touch?
You have me there Lobos. Missed the fact she’s a second season novice. The second season is the key though for me. She’s got the experience. We also know that HdB does plenty of schooling at home (unlike say for example Willie Mullins, not that he trains Riviere) so would have done plenty over the course of 2 seasons / the summer.

Starting out this early could allow plenty of runs, which you’d want.

It’s an open company race though.
Novices are more likely not to go, then to do so, as a general rule.
