She had ran twice more as a novice as well (Honeysuckle injury of course), so that coupled with running against the boys could explain it.
She may well improve enough but even so a regressing Honeysuckle would need to be of epic proportions imo for Echoes In Rain to beat her showing decent progression.
Saldier is only 7 too so he’ll likely show up again, no doubt sharjah as well but I don’t see him being competitive at 9 to be honest.
Its definitely not out of the question but I’d rather wait and see how well she does in open company at her current price before deciding what I’d do.
As a comparison Honeysuckle was 16/1 for a long long time for the Champion Hurdle having already raced in open company for a season (I understand the bookies are playing a part) but Honey was unbeaten 9/9 before her second season in open company, Echoes is shorter than that already having achieved a lot less.
The Mares Hurdle or going chasing were the equation that kept her Champion Hurdle price artificially high, for two years.
She wasnt a 16/1 shot, if Henry had said we are going down the 2M Hurdle route.

Maybe so but I’m sure there were plenty of people on at 16/1 this year to warrant some sort of cut before plans were confirmed?
As you say as soon as it was confirmed she went fav or second fav behind epatante. The main reason most backed her was because she was too high if they went that way.
We don’t 100% know Echoes In Rain is going champion hurdle and is 12/1 or 14/1 with cashout. We also know she has to take on the last 2 champions.
Does she warrant being shorter than Honeysuckle was? Has there been ‘that’ much money at 25/1 to warrant the initial cuts to 16/1? Likely the bookies running scared as the prices again this year are worse but still.

Theres plenty of low bookmaker quotes out there for sure.
Youre right, she looks short based on stark assessment of novice campaign vs current/recent champions, but there's little depth behind those winners, so that why Novices dominate the market behind Honeysuckle.
Pity the novices are not all 10 points higher, but it would only be that way if there was more fearsome depth in the Champion Hurdle in 2021.

On Monmiral:
"He is going to make a cracking chaser in time but needs minding and looking after so will probably stay hurdling this year though nothing is set in stone. He will start off in the Fighting Fifth and we will map out a programme from there.
Life can be quite hard for second season hurdlers but Monmiral is very talented and wants a trip so the race that looks made for him is the two and a half mile Grade 1 Hurdle at Aintree in April."

Ferney chasing must also strengthen the chances of one of his mares going champion hurdle too..
Trying to workout which is the problem. I'd say Concertista as i've always thought she's more a 2m mare. She did almost prove that wrong last year though, just not sure she's good enough either way.
Echoes in Rain has looked a 2 miler but she did seem a bit more manageable in her last 2 starts.
Ruby always says they have to earn the right to race in the open G1s. Probably bar Laurina that's always been the case.
Neither have yet. EIR the more unexposed, but she's beaten very little really.

I'm with you Jack re Concertista and think she'll be given a go at the Champion Hurdle. I didn't think she truly stayed 2 1/2 in top company last season and was ridden like they weren't convinced. Her Novice Mares win sticks in my mind and the pace she showed from the last to put lengths between her and the rest in such a short time was nothing short of sensational even taking into account the opposition may not have been all that. If she starts off over 2 and comes up short then she can always step up again. She'll get the all important allowance and is trained by the best trainer. I also think it's interesting that Paddy Power have her at 16's for the Champion Hurdle, way shorter than anyone else. Why ??
Even at this early stage, the British trainers seem to be pushing the 'it's more than just Cheltenham agenda'. From Skelton implying that My Drogo may not go to Cheltenham, and now this from Nicholls, I'm struggling to get that enthused about any GB Based trained runners, outside of the handicaps. I don't want to be that blinkered with Mullins, De Bromhead and Elliott but concentrating on them is becoming the default option. Stating the obvious?
