The jockey club 'kalendar' magazine has just landed via whoever was todays postie, the full Bob Olinger quote from Henry:

"The plan with him is to go chasing next season. He was brilliant in the Ballymore and looks like a really exciting young horse. I think he is one of the best novice hurdlers we've had. I'd say we'll start off looking at races between two and two-and-a-half miles and then see how we are getting on. He does a lot of loose schooling at home, so hopefully, he should be fine over them".

Makes it sound much more like all options are still open, as you'd expect. Marsh is still the obvious front runner but i'd have the RSA as next best over the Arkle. We shall see!

Harry Whittingham says his horse to follow this season is Galudon. Horse is still listed as being with Sam Curling but obviously no longer. Not hugely interesting on the face of it, but Galudon was 13l behind Journey With Me at Gowran Park back in March and it was even more comfortable for JWM than that distance would suggest, so it's encouraging to hear that Galudon is well thought of. In the vid Harry says the horse will start off over 2m 1/2 and may be up to 3m by the end of the season, calls him a "proper big galloping type".

        Thats a good spot

As you say, if its the stables horse to follow, then that is a big plus sign for collateral form with Journey With Me
"Journeys to Glory, breathing in his head".

Paul Nicholls interview at Newton Abbott today

Lalor and sounds like all of the Kate & Andrew Brooks horses that were at Harry Whittinghams have gone to him.

Bravemansgame may start off in the Rising Stars Novices chase at Wincanton 2.5 miles in early November

Was there anything that came out about that move that I've missed?

Harry did a superb job in my humble opinion... 3rd, 2nd and 1st from as many runners? That's Pat Kelly kind of returns

Any seen or read anything about the Skelton trained Third Time Lucki? He appeared to be just short of the top level last year failing to place at Cheltenham & Aintree but not finishing too far away. I don’t know if he’s set to stay over hurdles or go chasing. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough but curious if a plan for next season has been discussed yet

If there was any Grand Annual betting out now, I would be having an early nibble!

I'm quite looking forward to Dan's stable tour actually, third time lucki like you mention I think would go novice chasing since hes probably a coral cup type if he was to stay hurdling so I'd say grand annual would be a decent target! Also want to see what he does with Midnight River, possible one for the NHC perhaps if it goes novice chasing since I doubt it would be good enough for the BANC

Not to labour a question as I know this has been covered here and elsewhere, but I had a thought this morning (and it's relevant to me because I have nothing on Bob in the Arkle, but a couple of bets on RSA - most bets on Marsh, like most here so could be irrelevant)... Is the Arkle actually more likely than the RSA?

Consider HDB's statements like 'he's never been short of speed' and contrast them with HDB's statement of Journey With Me 'he's a proper galloper'. I've no idea if JWM is remotely close in ability to Bob, but they are both under the same ownership so you'd expect them to have at least an idea. If you've got what appears to be a resolute stayer in JWM, who could be anything, and a 'speedy' horse like Bob, would it be in your thought process to send Bob down the shorter route (at least initially) to see if you could win Champion/Ryanair Chase with him and Gold Cup with JWM. I know it's probably too early to know how things will pan out, but would an owner/trainer be thinking that way? Naively (never had a horse, know things go wrong but not really sure how many things go wrong), I probably would in that situation.

Hi Odin, I'd be surprised if trainers, even the top ones, thought like that simply because it's not a given that gold cup horses just appear on a conveyor belt year after year.

Look at how long it took Willie Mullins to win a gold cup albeit his 2nd win came along a lot quicker.

From an owner's perspective, I recall Michael O'Leary eventually having Don Cossack as a GC winner, but prior to that he'd had Weapons Amnesty and Sir Des Champs being touted as potential winners but it didn't work out for them, point being GC winners are hard to come by!
If they sent Bob O down the 2 mile route just to give JWM a go at the following year's gold cup, what happens if JWM doesn't produce or worse, gets an injury? I would guess they'll make plans for the coming season but obviously the first few runs will dictate if those have to be changed or not, but I think Bob O will have an individual plan and so will JWM, they won't be part of the same plan.

All fair TH. I guess I'm thinking a little too far back, but I remember War of Attrition running in an Arkle, and Kauto Star running in a QMCC, so was thinking down that route. The Marsh remains the obvious race, which I think we all agree on - the rest is just looking for value (that maybe isn't there)

The Marsh didn't exist when War of Attrition and Kauto Star were in their formative years. For horses like them the choice was pretty much RSA or Arkle.

Said back in April the plan is to stay hurdles as it's difficult to take on older horses chasing at his age. Looking at the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle as a target.

I heard chasing myself but only seems to be hearsay on twitter, nothing from Nicholls or Derham that I have seen yet
