  • Trainer quotes 2021/22 season

    From todays RP:

Henry de Bromhead on Envoi Allen: "Envoi Allen seems brilliant. His joint looks good and he's cantering away. I think the obvious race for him to start back in would be the second season novice chase at Down Royal in November. That's what we are aiming for with him."

on Bob Olinger: "I'm happy with them all but Bob Olinger has done really well as well and the plan is to go novice chasing with him this season."

Isn’t half some amount over the whole card!

Notorious meeting for Elliott runners and winners. I’d say a very smart move from HDB, Envoi had his maiden hurdle win there and also his beginners chase win. Familiar surroundings to hopefully get him back to his peaks.

He means that 2 day meeting at Down Royal has fired out some amount of Cheltenham Festival winners the last few years.

They have tickets on sale for their August evening meeting only at the moment, their 3rd September meeting is only showing as tickets on sale soon, so obviously the big jumps meeting at end of October doesn't have anything up and available yet.

Lockdown fever has made me want to get to this one too, only been to the Ulster derby meeting before but seeing Envoi turn up would be great.

EDIT - tickets for September card are available, hopefully announcement soon for October

Yeah nothing up yet for the October meeting, Robin Swan saying we are in a worse state than GB and Ireland has me worried, but surely can't have another lockdown! .

13,000 allowed into Super Cup last night, but correct me if I'm wrong only 1,000 max into Irish league games? So don't know where Racing will come into that! Without digressing too much a joke UEFA can just plow in with whatever they please, they better let Windsor have at least that for the World Cup qualifiers!

But Down Royal is a nice meeting, not overly busy, but usually a decent enough crowd for an atmosphere. Some good horses have went to it over the years, maybe not has many winners will be produced from it, but still numerous have over the years! I was hoping Bob might have went for Down Royal too. Would absolutely love it if he sent Honeysuckle to the WKD hurdle feature race on the Friday! Hw did send Aspire Tower last year! But usually a Gordy meeting so probably be his main challenger if he has one for that division!

Some Irish league clubs would struggle for 1000 a game before covid!

It's been ten years since I went to a Glentoran game and even lockdown hasn't swayed me to want to go back.

Down royal hasn't any info up about max capacity, just that you can only order a max of 6 tickets. I'd expect it to be similar amounts to the people being allowed into the racecourses down south unless things open up a bit more in the meantime. Here's hoping

Haha very true! I'm out of touch with the league now if I'm honest, played football and now manage a team on Saturday afternoons so don't get to go to matches. Went to Windsor for Linfield games with my Dad mid/late 90s and 00s. Some cracking boxing day fixtures over the years! But with my interest/love for racing now I've no interest in the "Big Two" clash and rather watch the racing and footy scores with mates in a pub!

Does anyone have the stable tours from last year, are they still on here anywhere, interesting to see who sticks to their word/plans, who bluffs or talks the biggest load of nonsense, ie mullins bingo!

I was at Down Royal on 18th June for their re-opening and it ran well. Don’t see any issues for the 2 day meeting in October and I can’t wait!

Link to loads of last year's stable tours below. WPM, GE, HdB, NJH, plus lots more 'smaller' trainers. Be sure to look from page 3 onwards and unless you are effluent in German be sure to select the English text!
