I take it the Forum Yankee is small stakes for big returns.
Not Honeysuckle, Elimay, Tiger and Shishkin.

If not a Gordon Yankee, is there scope for an Irish trainer without Willie Mullins Yankee? That'll mean the pick of Elliott, De Bromhead, Cromwell, Fahey and possibly Emmett Mullins - bit of a wider choice if stuck for names under current criteria
EDIT - just had a flick thru the previous months' nominations and Irish trainer Yankees are pretty much the norm so forget my idea lol would suggest an English trainer Yankee but the idea is to win money at Cheltenham.....

I was going to say Journey With Me, but he was in the June yankee for the Potato and we're trying to avoid using the same horses, I think? If not, him for the Ballymore.
A candidate for ones that have yet to feature:
Gin On Lime (Mares Chase) 20/1
Galvin (XC) 12/1
Tellmesomethinggirl (Mares Hurdle) 10/1
Minella Indo (GC) 6/1
21,020/1 with B365.
Possibly a few too many question marks in that one though. Run Wild Fred and Journey With Me are obvious subs that cover both camps if we're allowed to re-use horses at this stage.

Run Wild Fred/Farouk d'Alene - National hunt 16/1 - 20/1
Elliott has won this race 5 times since 2011 so it's hard to ignore his horses in it. If not using RWF as he's already made it into earlier yankees, Farouk is the substitute
Abacadabras - Stayers 33/1
Likely to stay hurdling next season, maybe this is more winnable if Honeysuckle and the Mullins battalion turns up at champion hurdle
Annie G - Mares novice 20/1
Good win at Galway and 2nd to Gypsy Island recently, young and hopefully lots of improvement to come
Gin on Lime - Mares chase 20/1
Already been stated elsewhere on the forum how good a jumper she is, also quoted at 40/1 for Arkle
EDIT - These prices are taken from Bet365

I'm clearly the exception here but the fact that PTKO is a star at Cheltenham and very much the exception to the rule means that I currently have little love for Gin On Lime. Her 4 recent chases have shown consistency rather than improvement and she has to find at least another stone to be competitive come March. I don't see Fan De Blues as one of Willie's best so Galway has to go down as disappointing. I wouldn't be averse to TWAR because she could well be nicely weighted for the Plate but she surely can't mix it with Elimay or Appreciate It without that stone.
This far out, a yankee needs either a certain target or a big price (double figures). Both would be nice. I'm quite happy to have one shortie if it's a likely winner. Given it turns up sound you have a decent patent running on.
On that basis, I'd be with
Run Wild Fred (NH)
Galvin (XC)
Honeysuckle (CH)
Put The Kettle On (QM)

I agree with the general consensus that Run Wild Fred and Galvin are solid candidates I also like A Plus Tard for the Gold Cup. Two at much bigger prices id suggest would be Party Central in the Mares novice hurdle and Gerri Colombe in the ballymore.
Party Central ran to a high level in bumpers last season including beating beaten a neck by Grangee she won her last bumper of the season and is as big as 33-1 twice the price of Grangee.
Gerri Colombe is more speculative having won 2 from 2 bumpers at odds on both times. He gave the impression to me he'd be one for mid distance to staying trips and I'd take a chance at 40-1 for the ballymore.

Another one to nominate Gerri Colombe for the Ballymore. I was reading Mark Howards book the other day from last season (he pointed out a lot of festival winners) and on Gerri Colombe it says "over hurdles, two and a half miles plus can be his cup of tea and only time will tell if soft/heavy are crucial for optimum returns".
I know that leaves the door open for the spud race but Gordon Elliott ran him over 2 miles in his first two runs with the stable (won a 3miler in P2P prior). I'd think we will see him back out gradually increasing in trip. He's done nothing wrong in his two wins so far and the Ballymore could be ideal in his path to going over further in time.

I don’t want to rock the apple cart by suggesting a new one this month, but next months I think we should do a ‘from the front’ Yankee. Horses that won at Cheltenham from the front who will likely try and defend their title in similar fashion. Allaho, Flooring Porter, PTKO etc.

….well, it seems agreed that this months Yankee will be an Elliott/HdB hybrid. As with last month, it would be folly to not exploit Saxon Warrior excellent analysis.
From what I read, SW highlights 5 specific races Elliott has farmed in recent times (NHC; XC; Pertemps; Kim Muir; Triumph). Not all are priced up, but of those he seems to come strongly down on;
Run Wild Fred (NHC) 12-1 365
Galvin (XC) 12-1 365 (appreciate this race is not widely priced up)
They would be my suggestions for the Elliott selections although SW might not concur.
I do suggest we follow SW advice and put together an Elliott Super Yankee later in the year which includes those 5 races. Be good if Middle_Of_March can keep this in mind.Last edited by Eggs; 24 August 2021, 07:44 AM.
