I don't think the handicapper can do anything but drop him....

Lots of faith on Gordon to produce him on the right big day, and back up that back-class....

Looks a solid plot to my eye.

They would NOT have bothered with him staying in training if today was the peak of his powers still......

Will he struggle to qualify though in time?

Could rock up in the Boyne Hurdle with the Tiger next! Does he need two more runs?

Do we definitely see him staying over hurdles Death Duty that is?

Wasn’t a bad novice chaser before injury or have I missed that the above has been nominated for him by Elliott?

Couple of speculative punts today, Top Moon for JOB & JP, and Saglawy for WPM & JOS. Both 20/1 shots NRNB.

Protektorat runs in the Grade 2 Novices’ Hurdle (3:00). He won a Listed race last time. There are some good horses in this race and it represents a significant step up for him.

It will tell us where our future lies as a novice hurdler this year. If he were to win this we would go for the Ballymore and if he doesn’t, we are looking at the Coral Cup.”

I’m glad a couple of decent horses stood their ground after The Big Breakaway was pulled from tomorrow’s trial. There is still a good chance Protektorat will get beaten and head down this route. I’d imagine his current mark of 139 would not change in defeat and that’s perfect.

For Chelt yeah... he wouldn't qualify for a handicap chase in time and unfeasible to go for an open company race?

Death duty has completed 3 chases winning all 3 plus a fall.

Surely he is qualified? Based on the RP app he has a rating of 151, however his hurdle mark of 144 is of just as much interest. Would expect him to be dropped a few pounds for both given his absence

Would he qualify for this race as is?

144 would have him qualified for definite

Yeah I thought that myself but Kev had me questioning myself as to whether he needed another more recent run over hurdles or not.

Another soft run under his belt would be ideal I’m always conscious of the bounce factor after such a long absence but he was very well treated by Rachel yesterday so shouldn’t have taken too much of a toll!

Yeah true, just wondered if the hurdle return was maybe to get a run in view of going back over fences. He is 9 now so may not have a lot of time back over fences, given the long term injury.

Shame as he did look your typical Gigs chaser.

Think he would definitely be worth looking at this race if staying over hurdles though, especially dropped a couple lbs for yesterday’s run by the Irish handicapper.

Any race hills 20/1, sky 14/1 nrnb, 365 25/1 with cash out if any of that appeals

I thought he looked more natural over the smaller obstacles.

Yeha I am assuming he does need a chase run this season..... but that needs fact checking....

I'd be wary with Death Duty.
Did the same with Prince of Scars, and he's ran three times since the Galmoy where he returned after 2 years rated 150, and ran last week over fences rated 128.
                                He's shit now.
