Want to give a fair chance to L'ami Serge in this, available at 33/1 or 20/1 NRNB.
I don't actually know what his plans are, he's well held by Paisley Park and others so not sure the Stayers' is the right path, but should he turn up here with a rating of 155 I think he'd have a big chance.
I do realise he has his finishing quirks, but a big field handicap, like the County Hurdle he just failed in by a neck to Arctic Fire off 152 a couple of season back, suits him down to the ground. He'll love coming through a big field, and produced late, hopefully.
He'll obviously be shouldering near top weight, but that shouldn't be a massive concern, when looking back at previous winners, William Henry 11-10 and Wicklow Brave 11-12 were two of the highest last season who fought out the finish, aged 9 and 10 respectively, and the previous season Topofthegame carried 11-9 when just missing out on winning.
I would say 2m 5f is about his trip, he beat Supasundae off levels at Aintree last season and that is better than any other level of form that any other horse will bring in to this race. Been dropped a few pounds since then also, which is lovely. Even this seasons form isn't bad, running over 3m against the likes of Paisley Park.
You'll likely get no horse travelling better than him coming to the last hurdle provided a clear round, it will then be a case him being right in the mind to get home in front. He's a definite each way play IMO.
Cue being told they have other plans for him that I have missed
