….perhaps we should look at 4 races where we haven’t had a Yankee selection as yet.

I’ll nominate SheWearsitWell (Mares Hurdle) available @ 14-1.

Maybe have a trainer theme for this month? HDB or Mullins?

Gaillard Du Mesnil - Marsh Novice Chase (20/1 Coral, 16/1 generally)

Proven at the Festival, won another Grade 1 Novice Hurdle at the mid-trip at Punchestown, and only beaten once, by Bob Olinger, in his last 4 Hurdle races.

He is from a younger age group as a 4yo turning 5 last season, so younger than Bob O, My Drogo, Bravemansgame and Appreciate It, but still won two Grade 1 hurdles and second in the Ballymore.

3 good picks there but what reason might Galvin be sent over banks ?
Presumably he heads back to Elliots (who still have Tiger Roll) and unless it’s all part of an elaborate Grand National plan I’d imagine they are setting their sights higher than a Cross Country.
Stranger things have happened no doubt but he would be a very short price to head elsewhere for me….

I haven't read any news on Galvin myself , just an idea that if the G.National were the target , then the cross country race might be the warm up for Galvin ??.
Not out of the Question to go for the Gold Cup , i suppose.

That’s what Gordon did with Tiger Roll after he won the 4-Miler, as a 7yo, so that road has been trodden down already, to an immensely successful conclusion.

Good reason to look to repeat it, with the NHC winning 7yo Galvin?

….I’m not sure 12-1 is sufficient temptation for XC to be its destination.

As can be seen in my diary I'm firmly in the Galvin XC camp. Trainers are creatures of habit, and non moreso than Gordon assuming Galvin is back in hs stable in July.

I don't think Kulcruit will be anywhere neat the Bartlett though. Ballymore most likely, but he travels really well and has a turn of foot so it would be no surprise to me if he turned up in the Supreme. Willie will have plenty of options as usual though. Of the two, Sir Gerhard looked to me as though he'd benefit more from a step up in trip, or even straight over fences.

Personally I feel Galvins NH Chase was a grade above Tiger Rolls and the horses that filled the places both likely to be players in big (graded) staying chases this coming season.
It’s been a while since I checked the numbers but wasn’t Galvin given an RPR of 159, that could be wrong but the point remains he looks an excellent prospect for big prizes and I can only imagine him heading for banks if they have decided on a Grand National tilt and want to avoid a mark rise battling G1 horses.
But if they should send Galvin down the XC route they have a decision to make about Tiger Roll, would they put them up against each other ?

Different owners Istabraq, and there's been plenty of white noise about a tilt at the National next season. The requests for a price very early weren't coincidence. He was priced up when the bookies opened their markets and the traders wouldn't have added him randomly. He was requested 'before' the martkets went live.

A XC campaign like Tiger Roll's is perfect for him next season. Send him over in Oct/Nov and hunt him around out the back for experience, run him in a hurdle in Feb, win the XC after the National weights are out, and then win the National a stone plus well in. His chances of winning those two races are far greater than him being good enough to win a Gold Cup, and Gordon will know it.

The fact that you feel he was a grade above Tiger Roll also makes him pretty compelling if they go the XC/GN route.

It's worth getting some money down in my opinion. If he opens up with a race elsewhere you'll still be able to cashout, but if he gets an entry in either of the XC chases this side of Christmas he'll be unbackable for March in an instant.

SWIW or Telmesomethinggirl seem like logical selections on the back of the Black Tears retirement news

Good point All over those two for the Mares . Can't split them. Their odds will shorten in the coming days once word of BT filters through no doubt.
