  • Which horse for 2022 currently priced at 20/1+ havent you backed yet, but like?

Currently I am doing my usual "bottom to top" run through the prices on each quoted Cheltenham Festival market to see if there are any currently at 20/1 or over that are maybe being a little overlooked in a specific race.

Then I am deciding if they are worth backing now, or "tracking" for when the season starts.

I have one in mind, that I am video researching, checking the breeding, form and trainers other possible runners in the race, before finally deciding on, either:-

    * Bet Now

    OR

    * Track Now ready for the start of the season proper in October, and trainers stable tours.

I will put mine up later, when I have decided which of the above actions I will do.

This sounds more like Kirsty Allsop and Phil Spencer's Property Show "Love it, or Leave it", than it should.

So my questions to my FJ colleagues is:-

"Is there a horse in a Cheltenham Festival 2022 market priced at 20/1 or bigger that you haven't backed yet, but are thinking seriously about backing?"

What is the horse, and race, and why do you like them for a race, and why haven't you backed them yet?

Maybe there will be a few wild ones come out of this, that's great, lets go for it.

I said on somewhere else on this forum that I'd give Zanahiyr another go but I just wouldn't trust myself to back him in the right race at this stage. Triumph hurdle runners don't appear to follow a particular path so it a wait and see with him.

Wouldn't back him at any price for the champion hurdle mind!!!!!

The first vote for TRACK IT, not Back it.

Is this for the Stayers Hurdle TH?

I see he is 50/1 with Cashout at the moment.

He is flat bred, and in the last decade flat-breds have had a better record in the Stayers than the Champion Hurdle.

        Horse: Jeff Kidder, 25/1
        Race: Champion Hurdle
Why do I like them for this race?: There's a few ahead in the current betting you can be confident wont be turning up and 25/1 is an interesting e/w price for a horse who has now consistently racked up a decent roster of victims. Doesn't seem to be ground dependent. Particularly impressive spring after such a long season.
Why haven't I backed them yet?: No idea where he'll end up, not exactly a great record of Fred Winter winners heading for the CH, will probably end up in one of the handicaps. Also, not a mare! I don't tend to back e/w this far out unless a ridiculous price.

          I am Maximus - Supreme

Goes against the grain looking to this side of the Irish Sea for a novice event but having seen what My Drogo has achieved has to put this one firmly on the radar and despite a poor season by his standards Hendo clearly knows how to win a Supreme.
I have pennies on at 40/1 and gave up trying, not quoted by all bookies but will be looking to get a decent amount on (and multis) when I can....

Abacadabras at 33/1 with 365 for the Stayers (double the price of PP). I know Spectre made a sound case at 25/1 (after winning at Aintree I think) and pushing him out 33s due to his performance over the shorter trip at Punchestown would not bother me one iota. I was already on E/W at 25s but added a bit more at 33s. The only thing stopping me getting a bit more involved is the performance of Klassical Dream. That said he is temperamental, has been out injured and still might go chasing.

              Envoi allen 20/1 gold cup

              Its just the wrong price

He ran with a chipped bone at punchestown so a line can be put through that

I personally have stamina doubts but that's more than factored into the price

Hes one win in a weak race away from being 6/1-8/1 again

....Jungle Boogie @ 22-1 a/r with Hills boost (only 12-1 Sky) interests me. Has won its two bumpers for W Mullins very easily but already a 7yo. No idea what the plans are for it hence a/r consideration.

This was pretty much the chat in the nortonscoin200 antepost diary yesterday; stayers but no five year old has ever won it so that's a negative for Zanahiyr straight off the bat.

Not sure of the strength of punchestown form given how bad quilixios ran, but Jeff Kidder and Zanahiyr both look of interest off the back of that.

One I have looked over and noticed running against Kilcruit/Sir Gerhard is Whatdeawant for the Albert Bartlett which ranges from 40-66/1 for the Spud race.

He has ran over 2 miles previously and especially from how he came from being well out of screenshot (against Kilcruit) to steam into the places I am hoping that the horse is stepped up in trip next season.

None that a particularly bullish on and most haven't backed but ones I think may be of interest at 20/1 +

                        • Zanahiyr 50/1 Stayers

                        • James 20/1 Marsh
                        • Brandy Love 25/1 Mares Novice (Although has gone missing so wondering if all is ok..)

James De Berlais in the Marsh at 20/1 is one I’m tempted to back, ran a fine race behind Klassical Dream at Punchestown.

I’ve already got Bob Olinger & My Drogo onside for the race though so I’m in no rush to add JDB. I don’t know if Willie has mentioned a target for him next season, other than he goes chasing, so I’m happy to track for now.

Honeysuckle GC 33/1. If they do go over fences with her next season as opposed to going for a repeat in the Champion Hurdle, then she will not mess around with going for the Novice races at the festival. I'm 99% certain she'll stick to hurdles but, if they do try to emulate Dawn Run then I'll be right behind her. There's no way on earth she'd be 33's if they made that decision. She'd be nearer favourite wouldn't she ?? I really must have a saver on her just in case.

Other than horses already in my shortlist/diary, there were a few likeable performances in the bumpers at Punchestown outside of the Sir G versus Kilcruit rematch. One that particularly caught my eye from a trainer that can win big races at Cheltenham was My Mate Mozzie. Like a couple of the other bumper winners, he pulled for most of the race and it was impressive that he still had something to give up the home straight and win comfortably by 8 lengths. I've not requested a price yet but I'd be very interested in him for the Supreme as a faster pace over two miles should help him settle better. That being said, I feel next seasons novice hurdle races could be a bit deeper than last and I have some work to do to narrow down my shortlist.
