It’s pure economics when there is no competition prices are high (confusingly the equivalent of low prices in betting terms). What Sky should do is adjust once more competition enters the market but unless the strategists talk to the traders this won’t happen.

      • A rare hour or two I can look into potential handicap routes for march. Thinking about the weekend, Not that I'm writing him off completely for the gold cup, but I wouldn't be surprised if HDB aimed Eklat De Rire at the brown advisory considering his firepower and if it came up soft. Previous 'staying' types have won it such as road to respect. Be interesting to see how he runs between now and then.

          • Fairly sure that’s the old sponsor for the Plate. Intermediate Chase handicap

The sponsorship changes have been a source of much confusion, to clarify:
G1 3m novices chase, formally sponsored by RSA is now sponsored by Browns Advisory.
The 2m 5f handicap ‘Plate’ run on day three was sponsored by Browns Advisory for several years but they’ve now moved their sponsorship to the novices chase, I believe this race is now sponsored by Paddy Power…

No I mean the advisory (sorry the plate now). The ultima would obviously be another option given the distance and apparent trend of horses running in the Hennessy/Ladbroke heading to this. But I think he's more versatile than you think and does hold some speed, a front running style for whichever of the above should he be entered could see him in better light even off a higher/top weight in the field. He's very lightly raced and also has time on his side.

                • Was it a poor ride from Nico earlier on Broomfield Burg? Or did it look like a plot for a festival handicap…

No idea on BB, but it was a cracking ride from the front on the 12 year old winner

I’d say neither. He has to get his mark up so this wasn’t a plot. The horse wasn’t helping the jock I’d say. Plenty of ability there but time will tell whether he lacks experience or resolution.

Definitely resolution for me. The tail swishes and general reluctance at Newbury last time a big red flag and didn’t seem any more willing today (albeit not quite as obvious). One to avoid I think
