The other Irish raider looked an overly theathrical ride with Born Patriot, will certainly be keeping an eye on him.

One of the horses I fancied last year for the Ultima, Coconut Splash, is looking at trying to pick up a nice handicap according to Adam Wedge. He's 14s TWAR although I will wait for the handicap markets to appear (with NRNB) and see where to go from there. I think he's definitely one of the better UK horses to be aiming at a handicap over the mid-long distances - hopefully at Cheltenham.

I try not to get overly carried away about handicaps but it's so difficult!! One that made my watch list yesterday was Fanion D'Estruval. Last year I incorrectly thought the horse could run well in a Grand Annual but he clearly needs a trip now. In the Old Roan yesterday he was seemingly unable to go the early pace, not even in camera shot for much of the latter stages he stayed on strongly to be only four lengths behind the eventual winner. Depending on how he is campaigned (ended up in the Ryanair last year) he could be a horse to watch for the Plate, over further than yesterday with a stiff up hill finish might see him to better effect. It's also a race his trainer has won three times since 2007.

The problem I have is I'm not entirely convinced Evan Williams has the faintest idea how to lay one out for the Spring Festivals. Off a mark of 137 you'd have to be all over him for the Paddy Power Gold Cup though. It's coincidentally the same mark Coole Cody had for the same stable last season, and would usually be enough to get in somewhere near the foot of the weights.
The lack of a run, or an entry over the next week would suggest he's not heading there though, and they've got something else on their mind. In terms of the Festival I do wonder whether he'll be kept to flat tracks and Aintree is on their mind instead.Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

The last two winners have broken the previous norm of experienced horses laid out that didn't win during the season, and it could be that novices are the way to go for the winner in future, but if not we just need Midnight Shadow to lose two or three more races during the season and then he has the perfect profile!Luck is a dividend of sweat.
