  • The other Irish raider looked an overly theathrical ride with Born Patriot, will certainly be keeping an eye on him.

    • Tullybeg is 14/1 AR will Hills if people are tempted. Would he be shorter if there were Pertemps markets up?

Had him in a decent double with definite plan unfortunately. Looked like he couldn't jump a twig when left to sort himself out, but flew every hurdle he was ridden into. Also found a lot of trouble in behind the two horses that weakened in front of him. Not sure Kansas was for stopping today regardless, but on another day I can definitely see your with the Patriot

Nah no chance surely, he’d be 20’s minimum I think. Although this year has been a joke. Hills would probably slash the any race and introduce him at the any race price

Not sure sue smith will catch on but one horse that looks very similar to that one and sky pirate is midnight shadow.
how much would he improve for a race like the grand annual ?
these strong travelling decent jumpers perfect

                    • One of the horses I fancied last year for the Ultima, Coconut Splash, is looking at trying to pick up a nice handicap according to Adam Wedge. He's 14s TWAR although I will wait for the handicap markets to appear (with NRNB) and see where to go from there. I think he's definitely one of the better UK horses to be aiming at a handicap over the mid-long distances - hopefully at Cheltenham.

route rated 150 at the moment?

                        • I try not to get overly carried away about handicaps but it's so difficult!! One that made my watch list yesterday was Fanion D'Estruval. Last year I incorrectly thought the horse could run well in a Grand Annual but he clearly needs a trip now. In the Old Roan yesterday he was seemingly unable to go the early pace, not even in camera shot for much of the latter stages he stayed on strongly to be only four lengths behind the eventual winner. Depending on how he is campaigned (ended up in the Ryanair last year) he could be a horse to watch for the Plate, over further than yesterday with a stiff up hill finish might see him to better effect. It's also a race his trainer has won three times since 2007.

Yes I'm with you here. I tried to include him as a dark horse in Diamond Geezers Ten to Follow competition. As the best handicapped chaser in the UK I thought he was perfect. Unfortunately DG was ahead of me and had included him in the list of horses!

The problem I have is I'm not entirely convinced Evan Williams has the faintest idea how to lay one out for the Spring Festivals. Off a mark of 137 you'd have to be all over him for the Paddy Power Gold Cup though. It's coincidentally the same mark Coole Cody had for the same stable last season, and would usually be enough to get in somewhere near the foot of the weights.

The lack of a run, or an entry over the next week would suggest he's not heading there though, and they've got something else on their mind. In terms of the Festival I do wonder whether he'll be kept to flat tracks and Aintree is on their mind instead.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

It surely can't be long before he's a very well handicapped horse, and I like the 2 mile handicap thinking. A similar run style to Sky Pirate, the same sire, and out of a sprint bred mare.

The last two winners have broken the previous norm of experienced horses laid out that didn't win during the season, and it could be that novices are the way to go for the winner in future, but if not we just need Midnight Shadow to lose two or three more races during the season and then he has the perfect profile!

Coconut Splash did have an entry for chase 2 mile 7 at Chepstow tomorrow but wasn't in the final decs. I have been waiting for this horse to come out, having backed it against chantry house and messir des obeux. So a possible step in trip or could the PP gold cup still be a possibility ? The prospect of that is very exciting and given Trainer won it last year etc...
