Thanks! 100/1 is big. He could be anything really.

I have boosted to 117/1 and backed EW

…. I must’ve got the last of 117-1 an hour or so ago, I don’t think it would take much to shift that price.

HDB intimated the same at the end of last season. I can't see him chasing Honey's ass again so the only other option would be the Stayers or skipping Cheltenham all together. Henry is on record as saying AT sees out his races well which I agree with. He certainly stayed on again really well up the hill in this year's Champion Hurdle when looking likely to be swamped and a step up in trip could be the making of him. Others have successfully made the switch up in the past. I've taken the 40/1 with B365 ( only 20's with Skybet) and that could look a very shrewd bet if/when him staying over the smaller obstacles is confirmed.
Hello everyone - new as a member here but been a lurker for a while - but finally getting involved.

Spent the last month or so looking at my ratings from last season, and updating my comments/thoughts on my top rated/prospects.

Aspire Tower is one that takes my eye, but the tweet suggesting that the plans are to aim for the Fighting Fifth don't align with my thoughts. I was thinking that he would be suited to stepping up in terms of trip, maybe to the intermediate trip which if shaping well, then onto 3 miles - at both Cheltenham & Leopardstown Xmas Festival he seemed to suggest would be suited to more of a stamina test.

I do think there are some question marks on jumping and wanting to be a front runner.

How are people interpreting the Fighting Fifth target, that a bet for the Stayers would be a betting slip in the bin?

Welcome to FJ Will. Good to have you on board, and that's a good first post.

His breeding suggests that he should be staying at the minimum for now. He's got the pedigree of a miler, and often they don't see out 2 miles over hurdles. It's not that he may not get further in time but as a 5 year old there's plenty of time to find out.

Also consider that it's perhpas not that he is slightly one paced at the end of his races in the best two mile company, he could just be at his stamina limitation. If that's the case the extra year of maturing may just help him see it out better, and if so he'll finish much closer than his fine effort in 4th last season, which was no mean feat in itself in the season after he was juvenile hurdling.

                • I'm still happy to keep my Stayers slip as I don't think he'll be competitive in next season's Champion Hurdle .

Thank you Spectre - really good to get another perspective on things. Really trying to improve my race reading & understanding what each horse's preferences are - one I find can be difficult to interpret is whether a horse is staying/keeping on as they want more of a stamina test or is just not the grade required.

Another one I like the look of for next season is Greaneteen , will be of interest to see if Bryony Frost was right & they step him up in trip for a Ryanair - potentially a more winnable race than the Champion Chase with Shishkin. It won't be gospel but will be interesting to see the comments on him in Jumpers to Follow when its released next week.

I know its outside of the Championship Division, but I do have a share in Grangee whose novice year will interesting , and in Cabaret King who currently is unraced but might one day follow her footsteps into a Champion Bumper.

                      Hi Will,

                      Welcome to Fat Jockey.

You are lucky to have a share in Grangee, I think she had a sensational bumper season, Listed, Grade 3 and Grade 2 wins, at the big tracks, is going to be hard to beat.

I take it that she will go Novice Hurdling this autumn - are you hoping she makes up into a Mares Novice Hurdle contender?

Do you know yet when she will make her hurdles debut?

All the best with her, she is one gutsy, classy Mare.

                      • Great to be involved in Grangee Will. She's one to really look forward to. Willie has said on more than one occasion that he thinks she's a proper staying Mare. Could this mean she could take in a race like The Albert getting the allowances or do you think she is more likely to go down the well trodden path of the Mares Novice Hurdle ? To be safe I've backed her to win any race so I have no preference.

Hi Lobos and Saxon - hopefully be able to learn a lot from yourselves on here.

I am super lucky with Grangee’s success especially as it’s my first foray into ownership. I thought her debut at Galway was quite taking, but did feel the sting taken out of things after the Market Rasen race. The jubilation with the win at the Dublin Racing Festival was something else, shame I only had a little bit on at 18/1.

The Cheltenham performance I took well as was just over the moon to have that opportunity of a runner there, and the pace didn’t suit, but she stayed on well. Punchestown felt like a formality but did have a slight worry that she’d struggle after a hard season.

This season’s plans are still in their infancy, but I think with Willie being how he is, it will be the easiest route possible so I’d think keep within the mares , with the most of her racing coming after Xmas - that’s just my guesswork, rather than any inside information!

Excited for the season to come, as will be interesting to see how she takes to having to jump the hurdles - her tiny frame may be an advantage.

Hes such a big horse I can see him having a light campaign

The early season battles seemed to take their toll at Cheltenham and Punchestown

He didnt travel and jump with his normal enthusiasm

There’s probably only two main races for him the Savills at Christmas and the Irish Gold Cup at the DRF.
