  • Mentioning Samcro in the championship races thread is worthy of a reference to Trade Descriptions.

As a dual festival winner despite having very well publicised problems it is very harsh. Whilst he’s turning the wrong age into next year’s festival if he were to put his problems behind him, I’d have no problem backing him. It’s a big ‘if’ but he’s still a quality horse. It would be nice to see him get a clear run next season and put in some top performances,

        • Would you rather own Samcro or Melon.

Now that's a question ! Personally i would have to side with samcro on account of those two festival wins. How bout you, kev ?

            • A two time festival winner or a horse that’s only ever won one graded race? Tough choice.

              • Without hesitation, Samcro.

                • Depends what you're after.

Melon has raced more times than Samcro (27 - 18).
Melon has won more prize-money than Samcro (380k - 326k).
Melon is rated higher than Samcro (165 - 158). This is the only point where Samcro might be better because of handicap possibilities. However, the chances of getting him right on a big day seem to be quite small. Certainly, the comparison with Don Cossack was and is ludicrous.

                    Yep, it's not even close.

Plus Samcro's medical bills must be much higher than Melon's

Couldn't think of a more deserving man to foot that particular bill.......

If I'm thinking of the right race, maybe reading into it too much, but isn't that usually a Ryanair route horses take running in it? So that could be telling!

                              • 2M 3 and a 1/2F Grade 2

                                Prior winners were

                                Battleoverdoyen
Real Steel - 6th Gold Cup
                                Snow Falcon
                                Disko
                                Sub Lieutenant - 2nd Ryanair
                                Ptit Zig
                                Don Cossack - 3rd Ryanair
                                Rolling Aces

As yet it isn't a feeder race to winning anything at the Festival.
But the Ryanair has had 2 placed horses from it in recent times.

Maybe Henry is judging the Grade 2 as a good starting point for a horse that has Fallen and Pulled Up in his last two starts.........rather than straight into the 3M Grade 1 on the card.

He may also be targeting A Plus Tard and/or Minella Indo as a seasonal debut for the Grade 1 race.
