  • One I’m keeping an eye on in the stable tours is Angels Breath for Henderson.

Made a smooth transition to fences end of last year before injury ruled him out. Only 7 going 8 for the festival and at 40/1 for the Ryanair it’s a decent enough price imo.

I won’t be backing until hearing about him or he’s entered up, interested what others think? Obviously not a lot can be said because he’s missed a year.

    • I was cleaning up my Tracker yesterday, its been a while, and removed Angels Breath

      This is why..

      - I’m not keen on novices that have had injuries/long periods of time off
      - As a antepost bet, too many question marks with this horse the main being... will this horse come back, will he last a whole season
      - For the Ryanair, prefer to back horses that have grade 1 chase form around the course

Could he turn up at the Ryanair at a shorter price... potentially, but he's too risky for me as a antepost bet and I'd rather throw my credits elsewhere

Didnt Henderson say 'he's as good as any of them' during his stable open day ?

I think it was a bad injury he had too which was almost career ending. They’re never the same after that so he’s not one for me.

Yes the same with me. 60% of his tendon gone apparently. That's borderline career ending. I couldn't have him in my antepost book until we see if he's the same horse, capable of improvement, and standing his racing after two years off.

Hendo clearly rates him though, and his two novice chases were decent. They're hard to get a line on retrospectively though. He put up decent RPR's in both, and the second run at Ascot was in a quick time for soft ground round there. He also beat First Flow in that race who is a decent yardstick. But it was over 2m3f, and FF is a bang two miler.

I'm sure if Henderson is serious about him being a genuine contender, we'll see him out at HQ in October or November, and that'll be the time to decide I'd say.

I think I'd rather back him on the day (or NBNB) at much, much shorter odds than risk backing him ante post. He was clearly very talented but that injury sounded particularly nasty and I'd worry that he doesn't bounce back, and stay fit.

              • Didn’t realise the injury was that bad!

One to watch on comeback I’d say, wasn’t backing him now anyway, was just flicking through some of the betting.

“She will go to Wetherby first time out then the Warfield Mares’ Hurdle at Ascot. She will go back to Aintree and then retired to be a broodmare. I don’t think we will go to the Cheltenham Festival with her.

….he has Elle est Belle coming through, be interesting if she follows the same route.

                    • Roksana is as short as 10, and will be as old as 10 come March, they've missed their chance with this horse
Hope she picks up 1-2 wins, early in the season, and help skew the market which is normally the case for the stayers

That's probably a reasonable assumption to make but I have to say, and very unusual for any horse let alone a mare at 9 years of age, but she seemed to be an improved horse last season which can probably be attributed to the step up in trip.
Her Wetherby win in the Yorkshire hurdle was for me particularly impressive, easing well clear of Next Destination with some very good horses a country mile behind, subsequent performances put her a pound or two (with allowance) behind the very best stayers,
I'm surprised she won't get to have a crack at the Stayers hurdle...

She'll get a crack at it, buy the time she arrives she could be as short as 4/1 if he picks up some early wins
10/1 for me is too short for me to take now, and I dont have enough credits to spare to cover a book on this race on the assumption she'll shorten up
Decent mare, but not for me

I wonder whether connections will be tempted to have a go at The Supreme with Elle est Belle

                              • That's crossed my mind too FOTT. There are a lot of novice mares around this season, and some are going to find their way into the novice G1's. Some into handicaps too.

Mullins has an army of them to split up. It's worth a debate in it's own right.
