  • My original post on the thread was to suggest the following four:

    Appreciate It - Arkle
    Honeysuckle - Champion Hurdle
    Bob Ollinger - Marsh
    Monkfish Gold Cup

The logic being that they are almost certain to go to those races, and their prices will contract to the point where we won't/can't include them in future yankees. In my opinion the other shorter priced horses in the markets are either in the wrong races for early yankees, or not solid enough to consider taking single figures this early.

The other horses that fit the bill are Sir Gerhard (too early to consider the Supreme), Kilcrut (same as Sit Gerhard plus target race), Shishkin (rock solid but too short already?), Easysland (something to prove now), Allaho (I think Energume is a proper threat), and Flooring Porter (won't be allowed to dictate next year).

I still stand by my original suggestion, and the four above would be the ones I'd go for. The most solid horse of all is Shishkin of course, and it's perhaps worth considering putting him in and taking out what we perceive to be the weakest of the four though?

If I were to go with a horse at longer prices Energumene would be the one. I think he can wait for a future month though, as he'll still be available at a working mans price, as will most other horses suggested on the thread. The four (or five if you include Shishkin) feel like now or never while they are still somewhere between four and five hundred to one, ortherwise they become unbackable later when we're using the bigger price horses as the season unfolds.
Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

      • Lots if great suggestions this month. Thanks to everyone for their points made. After a lot of thinking.. I’ve gone with these four. Any others suggested can of course slow nicely into next months so plenty of time yet to cover them.

        March Forum Yankee:
        - Flooring Porter (Stayers) @ 6/1
        - Bob Olinger (Marsh) @ 4/1
        - Appreciate It (Arkle) @ 4/1
        - Monkfish (Gold Cup) @ 5/1

        Best odds - 1049/1
        Bookmaker - Ladbrokes
