Wonder would they consider sending Vauban over a fence...

They said not last year. Willie said something along the lines of him not being a chasing type. I looked for the quote a few weeks back, but couldn't lay a glove on it. Plans may change though, of course.

I think Vauban has done very well for a 5yo, particularly one who Willie was unhappy with until Christmas. I could see him improving significantly next year and would be one I want on side.

I remember similar quotes also. He looks to be going the right way judging by todays run, more than likely they keep him over hurdles for another season and see if he can compete with the State Mans of this world. Con Hills plans could play a part into it also

          Willie has just confirmed that:

          a) State Man will stay hurdling;
          b) Vauban will go flat racing this summer and will either stay on the flat or go hurdling next year.

So no chasing for either, and maybe not even hurdling for Vauban.

          • Mullins talking on RTE about chasing but think he was talking about Champ Kiely? Hard to make it out at the time as had the wee ones making some noise!

              • Impaire et passe should go chasing

Don't think he has the speed for a champion hurdle, they got him off it for a few strides there

He's seeing out the 2m4f very strongly and is a big chasing type

                Cert in the turners

I agree re the speed/engine, but for the first time, I thought he jumped more like a hurdler. Far speedier over his hurdles this time and didn't give them as much air.

                  • "He looks like a chaser, the way he jumped today he looked like a chaser, but you'd have to consider him for the Champion Hurdle." - Mullins on RTV re IEP. He went on to say that he'd discuss it with the owners tonight but probably wouldn't decide until the summer.

I'm so confused as to why he would stay hurdling if state man, Vauban and il etait temps are also hurdling. It doesn't make sense why it wouldn't be definitive that he goes chasing given all above comments, which makes me think he stays hurdling

This is where opinion really comes into it, but my opinion of that interview was that he was thinking of chasing for IEP, but that at the last second he thought "I'd better not concede plans before I've spoken with the owners" so mentioned the champion hurdle too. I think he's leaning towards chasing.

I'd be happy if that's the correct interpretation of the words. I didn't see the interview, have just read your quote so I'm very happy to go with your thought process please

Definitely one to watch back when it’s on catch up on the RTV app

My thoughts entirely. IMO he would not beat State Man over 2 miles.

                              • Unibet shorten State Man into 5/1 for Champion Hurdle and push Constitution Hill out to 6/4.

Unibet shortest of ALL bookmakers in Arkle at 6/4 for Constitution Hill.
