  • Forecast / Tricasts

Does anybody play these during the week?

I'm mostly interested in trying to land a tricast in one of the handicaps...

My 'plan' is to just back all the horses I've backed in all of the combinations, which will take a decent bit of stake to do.

In the Ultima though, I've only backed 4. ("only")

Last year I switched between Forecasts and Tricasts and sods law.... landed a Tricast that I'd only backed as a forecast, and backed tricasts when only landing the forecast a couple of times....

    Should I do both?
    Stick to Tricasts?

IMHO and from experience.........don't bother. Giving money away. Far too risky. Stick to what you know.

...I find the Exacta pays more in the big handicaps, I tend to do one in virtually every race but with no crowds the tote returns are down so I probably won’t bother so much this time.

I find it hard enough picking the winner let alone the second and third too

This is my approach too. I do combination exactas and trifectas, although I concur that the returns are likely to be down. They’re a big part of my week though so it won’t stop me playing them.

            I'm not sure I agree

In 9 handicaps, with say, 6 darts in each, do you not fancy your chances of picking the winner?

I'd be gutted if I haven't backed the winner already of 5 of them

I'll record it all and see though, I hopefully can afford to shoot for the stars.

with less irish plots to sift through it may be easier this year

I have only correctly guessed a tricast once, and forgot to actually place the bet

And a forecast once but it was Douvan/Sizing John so it was something humiliating like 5/2 and only landed cos Vaniteux fell at the second last

Yeah always play these and plcepots as a bit of “fun” from the real gambling I’ve done through the year.

Helps to add to the excitement I feel.

I sometimes throw a cfc / ctc on 3 horses in a big field handicap, adds a bit of interest and pays well, if it lands.

I only play these on the big meetings so bit of a noob when it comes to these.

Which is the best way to stake?
                        • On 365 if I add forecast/tricast selections to slip, you can calculate the price of your current bet with the current odds, rather than the SPs
                        • Same as above but using the SPs to calculate the forecast/tricast odds
                        • Exactas/trifectas
Just wondered which one you are most likely to get the best returns? As Eggs and Spectre say, Tote turnover probably going to be lower this Festival

If I am backing lower priced horses in combinations for 1st & 2nd or 1,2,3 I go forecast or tricast. If I include a few outsiders then its exacta or trifecta with the Tote
