Hello Fat Jockeys,

  • Yankee Stakes

With most bets on, now is the time when the Daily and festival Yankees come to the fore.

I’m always a little unsure how much I should stake on a Yankee (or any multiple for that matter)

To give some context, most bets early on (before NRNB), tend to be 1 or 2 points to win, after NRNB, they climb up to 3pts EW.
I do have a couple of bigger stakes if I can see an obvious trading angle.

But 4-6 points is an average stake.

So as you can see I’m a fairly conservative punter.

When betting on a Yankee, I tend to adjust the stakes so that ew or win the total stake (for all 11 bets) is around 2 points.
I’ve never had one come up (in fact I’m not sure I’ve ever had more than 2 out of the 4 win) so that in part explains my reluctance to up the stakes.

But I’d be interested to how the FJ community view this level of stakes (about one third for what you’d bet on a single).
How does it compare and do you have any opinions as to whether I could improve my staking plan.

I really liked a post a while back (apologies I can’t remember who it was) that suggested splitting bets into 3 points - 1pts ew and 1 pt win.
I’d never considered doing this as a general rule (instead either doing horse to win or ew) but find myself doing it more and more, so was wondering if I was missing any other tricks.

The obvious one that's been mentioned on here many times is (with firms that offer cash out) not to do a yankee as such, and split the bet into

    1 acca
    4 trebles
    6 doubles.

This could be three bets instead of the one yankee, or you could really go Full anal, and make every bet separate (so 11 bets)

When you split it like this, you can also alter your win and each way stakes, as you like.
For example you may not be too arsed with the each way doubles, but want the trebles each way and especially the acca.

Lucky 15 gives you the 4 singles and many bookmakers pay double the odds if you get one winner which might be worth considering....

Are you aware of any bookmakers that do offer the double odds for one winner?

Thanks Q - good idea to make the trebles and acca ew and not bother with that for the singles & doubles.

Cheers Ista - I will be more likely to do a L15 if I don’t already have the horses covered in singles.
However, I’m never too sure what the boosts are for a single winner online compared to the shops.
I’m guessing for the forum yankees we will have most options already covered so may be sticking to multiples.

In the shops, they used to pay as much as 4x the odds if you only had one winner in a lucky 15. Forget which bookie.
Most paid 3x for a long time.
Now it's pretty much double the odds. And if they don't offer that then it's not really a lucky 15 is it ? Just Robbing you.

I'm not a prehistoric neanderthal wandering in to random caves exchanging objects for other random objects with meaningless values attached so it skipped me by

                    FM ruining my joke though.

I hardly ever place a lucky 15, although I hardly ever back 4 horses hoping only 1 wins - but a better safety net than a yankee.

I'll end up over thinking it....and I certainly wouldn't get cash out to do it.

I bet you could get your hand on one of those pens within 5 mins, Derek with 24 hours.

Not 100% sure on this, but I believe PP are only treble the odds in store which obviously isn't an option at the minute. Not even double the odds online

                            Just checked Fred and it’s:
                            3 x odds 1 winner in L15
                            4 x odds 1 winner in L31
                            5 x odds 1 winner in L63

Anyone restricted won’t qualify for this but if you have an unrestricted account I think that promotion is OK.
Shops being closed is going to hurt me this year...
