    .
A horse like Energumene has to be looking at Champion chase or Gold Cup before a Ryanair, no ?
You go to the Ryanair if you aren’t quick enough for a Queen Mother or don’t stay the Gold Cup trip...

What if he gets beaten by shishkin in the Arkle and chacun wins the champion chase. Mullins could have monkfish and abp for the gold cup so he’s unlikely to head there. The Ryanair would then be logical? All ifs and buts at this stage I know.

Yeah logical but you don’t train a talented young horse to win Ryanairs, you train them to win championship races, if he proves himself not up to a QM/Gold Cup then yes set your sights on lower targets but he needs to be given the chance to win one first...

I think it will depend on the Arkle and what happens with chacun to where he’ll run next season.

I think that’s a typical kind of comment that you, I and every punter would make because we’re primed to find winners, I’m sure owners/trainers dismiss the opposition to a large extent if they believe their horse is top table.
I don’t disagree the Ryanair will probably suit Energumene more than a Gold Cup but there’s no suggestion a Champion Chase isn’t the ideal race for him even if Shishkin wins the Arkle and is still around in a years time...

I've done a few specials and have Shishkin in the Champ Chase.
Really like the look of Shishkin CC and Energumene Ryanair but thinks its only worth a free bet at this time.

I was tempted by a few doubles over Xmas. Only small stakes, but ..

                  Bravemansgame RSA & Monkfish GC - 600/1

Zanahiyr CH & Shishkin Champion Chase - 125/1

Ferny Hollow ARKLE & Appreciate It MARSH - 825/1

                  Lolz

Small stakes and free bets, yes I have started.

Couldn't care less if it comes across muggy or not. We should all stick to what works for us

Feel free to back the left back as first goalscorer in the next live football match after a big win...

Absolutely. Depends why you do it but a mug bet can still be a fun bet.

I can see some have strong opinions on this, but relatively new to "proper" ante post punting I was annoyed with myself last year having watched Shishkin win the Supreme I went to at next years Arkle market to find him single figures, missed the price but knowing he would probably be better this season. So this year I decided to get a few in the book for small stakes, those horses who are probably likely to win or go close this year, but should improve next, those "chaser's in the making" or "big raw horses" prime candidates.
