If you were starting from scratch and hadn’t had a bet at this point, who would it be and why? I honestly don’t think I fancy anything and having cashed Ferny and POP unlikely to run, I’m stumped. I did whack a 2 point free bet on the fav at 11/4 as she was crossing the line the other day but I really don’t fancy her at that price and I think it was a bit of a panic bet in all honesty.
      I like that question.

We should all ask/answer that in every thread.

That said, this is a race I'd be happy not to play with ante post.
If I did have to, maybe something as simple as Isreal Champ 10/1 NRNB.

He was visually impressive, I don't know if he'll be good enough but I don't expect the 3rd fav to be double figures on the day. If Panic Attack doesn't run he's 2nd fav....

So Isreal Champ each way 10/1 if I was betting now. NRNB - as he may not run

      • Appreciate It looks solid to me but if i were starting now i would probably have to accept that i'd missed the price.

based on that i think i have to agree with Kev and take the 10/1 NRNB on Israel Champ

        • Surely if you were deciding now you would just wait for the entries and make a more informed decision? Every year so much of this thread is dedicated to guesswork.

Deffinately. And not even then. Imo you'd be bit of a nutter to back the fav at current prices.

Easy to forget envoi allen was appreciate its price yet drifted out to 6/1 on the day.

Nearly all horses are now shorter than they will be on the day.

            Apart from the handicaps.

The Irish horses might prove to be better - but on what basis are you claiming they’re better at the minute?

The UK lot are generally the Irish lot, but got bought by the UK lot and trained over here - they were largely running in the same Irish ptp’s as those your classing as the Irish lot until last April/May - so on what basis are the ones who weren’t bought by Irish trainers worse?

                Irish are better full stop.
                Half as many runners
                Twice as many winners
                Over the whole meeting

6/1 on the day? Envoi? Really? I don’t remember that at all.

                    • Most horses are definitely shorter though.

But my question is what shows the current crop of Irish bumper horses are better than the UK lot?

Surely no one knows that yet - I don’t know any form lines that prove it one way or the other?

You might be right - but we won’t know until March but you state it as if it’s fact. I think the Irish horses have pretty much been disappointing- how many on here have backed Ferny Hollow, Power or Pause etc - they haven’t come up to the hype - so maybe Appreciate It is the best of a poor bunch?

                        • Appreciate it has won the best bumper this season
The Cheltenham bumper will be easier than the one he won in Dublin IMO
Ferry hollow and power of pause were fancy types that gave not yet proven it on the track.
Me thinking it’s a good thing is a fact.
Wether it’s a good thing is yet to be seen

He was around 9/4 this time last year. But there was also the chat he wouldnt go.

And He was deffinately 6/1 at a point during the day, I didn't back him myself but my mrs had him in a lucky bet I can see at 6/1. Placed on the day.
