I cashed out my bets for Longhouse Poet in the Ballymore and replaced them on him in the Martin Pipe at 10/1 with Skybet NRNB. He’s not good enough to win the Ballymore or AB and will probably miss out on a place so it’s a shit or bust bet for me which I might need come the last race of the festival.

He's been given 145 by the Irish Handicapper, so with UK tax as well I can't see how he'll get in the Martin Pipe.

        • Awe bollocks, what’s the ceiling on the MP?? On the plus side at least I can guarantee a £30 return at least this Festival

Yes it’s 145, the same as the Close Brothers Novice Chase, and the Kim Muir. The only handicap different is 140 for the Juveniles in the Boodles.

Not holding on for 365 to go NRNB now?

There is usually a bit of a ct on everything then?

                    I would ****ing love that.

Tried to cut down on punts on novice targets.... but this is one I did take.

It does sound different to what Joe Tizzard said on Luck On Sunday a week or so back (although he was non commital)

                    • Me too got 33/1. But seeing as he has also said Master Debonair is likely for a race he isnt entered in then I cant really trust him. “he could run over 2m4f but i think hes only really getting going at that point in the race and I feel he’ll be even better over 3m... more likely to go for Albert Bartlett”

In Sunday’s RP they said straight to the Ballymore.

There is also a contradiction for Master Debonair where the Football&Racing state the Ballymore for him!

                        • Sunday’s Racing Post Article
He makes no secret of the fact he’s madly in love with The Big Breakaway – “a beautiful creature who has always worked well, but he’s still a baby and you might not want to put him over three miles on soft ground, so we’ll probably go straight to the Ballymore” – a £350,000 purchase who epitomises the new era at the stable.

“ He was eyecatching in his work from the moment he came here and couldn’t have been more impressive in what he’s done on the track. He banged his hock and missed Trials day but he’s a very good horse who could go well in the Ballymore after a prep run.”

                          Master Debonair
A Listed bumper winner who is improving nicely. He was impressive at Ascot last time and the sectionals were very good as well, so he’ll probably go to Exeter for the two-mile Listed hurdle on February 9 and then to the Supreme. His jumping needs to be brushed up but he’ll have plenty of schooling between now and then.

                          Today’s Racing&Football

                          The Big Breakaway
Having won a point-to-point last spring he joined us and first time out at Chepstow in November he was an impressive winner over 2m3f. We raised his sights next time at Newbury and he was again very impressive. I had hoped to run him the other day but he knocked the side of his hock when kicking his stable door. He’s fine now but the plan will now be to go straight to Cheltenham. He could run over 2m4f but I think he’s only really getting going at that point in the race and I feel he’ll be even better over 3m, so my thoughts at the moment are that he’s more likely to go for the Albert Bartlett. I love this horse and I think there’s much more to come.

                          Master Debonair
He had a little problem with his breathing last year, so we had that sorted out in the summer and he has bounced back to top form. After a good second in a Cheltenham maiden hurdle he went to Ascot and won as he liked over 2m. But it was last time out, back at Ascot, that he really impressed me. That was in a Grade 2 where he beat a small but classy field by eight lengths. He could have one more run this week at Exeter on Sunday before he heads to Cheltenham. We’ll give him entries in the Supreme and Ballymore and I’d think that at the moment we’d be leaning towards the latter. He’s in terrific form and I can’t wait to run him again.
