    That doesn't make sense.

You are literally agreeing that others were more tuned up and he wasn't cherry ripe?

So how can that have been his literal best performance?

You can 'mark it up' for sure, but his best form is over 2 miles...... his run when stepped up wasn't as good.... it was still good enough, but it wasn't his BEST piece of form.... the fact you're marking it up for those reasons proves that.

I'm not knocking his chances in this race at all, I'm just saying I would have been even more confident at 2m as he has a catalogue of form there and I didn't think he IMPROVED for a step up..... but he doens't need to IMPROVE for it

    • Its crystal clear in my head.

If Gordon went easy on EA in between the Royal Bond whist Willie & Martin Brassil tapered up the training of their two in the meantime it’s excusable to ‘only’ win by 3 1/2 lengths in my eyes.

      • He best chance is in the race he’s running in. I wouldn’t have been as bullish about the Supreme!

          Exactly.....EXCUSEABLE

If you're making excuses, it's not the best performance is it?

          Crystal clear

It's annoying me you can't grasp this point

I disagree, as I think Abacadbras is the most likely winner of the Supreme and I know Envoi Allen is better.

I don't know yet that Sporting John is worse than Envoi Allen

We don't need to know though now do we, as he's going where plenty have said he is all season

Id argue it’s very solid form because of the reasons I outlined above. Winning a good grade 1 after a few weeks sat on his arse in his box

I think the point Kev is trying to make is that if you are providing an excuse for the performance, it can’t have been the best they were expecting. Just because there was an excuse, doesn’t upgrade the bare form.

                • The form doesn't need any excuses. That Naas win is the best form on offer in this race by a country mile.

You're guessing though, and relying on post race comments about the horse's pre-race training regime. From a proven liar and gobshite.
And then guessing how well trained the opponents were.

                    Don't get me wrong.
A lot of this game is about guesswork.
But it's hardly solid if it is.

                        I don't think you've read the conversation

Best on offer in this race....is nothing to do with what we're talking about

                        • Anyway, it doesn't matter - my feelings on whether Envoi would have won the Supreme weren't even relevant all year as I didn't back him for it as I was confident he was coming here.... so why I've brought it up now is questionable

                          Envoi Allen
                          Sporting John
                          Longhouse Poet

                          That's the tricast

                          • I get where you’re coming from Kev & yes Gordon’s word definitely can’t be taken as gospel or anything near it for that matter but the timeline of his training plan ties in with his ‘excuse’ for the horse only winning the best trial in Ireland by almost four lengths so I’ll choose to believe him this time.

Albert Bartlett has been the plan for Latest Exhibition all season
