Hello Fat Jockeys,

ITCF ran too badly to be true - something must be a miss - has anyone seen/heard anything? Or do you think he just didnt act on the course?

I'm not sure, he has form around galloping tracks like Ascot and undulating tracks like Plumpton and Wincanton, but unless something comes from standard post race tests connections must be bitterly disappointed

      • You'd definitely have to consider that the owners will make a decision that they'll wait for Aintree too.

They've made no secret of not being keen on Cheltenham (for the wrong reasons) but they've not had a lot of luck there and they might just skip it now?

They have the perfect 'excuse' (doubt they need one) just to miss Cheltenham now and head to aintree

Got caught flat footed at the 2nd last where Summerville upped the tempo of what had been quite sedate pace up to then. Was slightly hampered there (but no excuse) and dropped to last. Couldn't make up any ground on the downhill and was still last at the last. Stayed on through beaten horses to finish 5th beaten 7 1/2l. Lacked tactical speed the way this race was run and/or didn't handle the downhill. Has to find 8l or go to Aintree instead.

            • Wouldn't be surprised if the front two yesterday will be the front two in March.

              • We had some Summerville Boy backers didn't we?

I don't think anybody expects Benie to run.

Summerville Boy is 10/1 now, not a bad each way price if you do think he'll follow him home again.

Can make money from all 3 places, not just one

Most definitely a fair price Kev, I will probably do a horses to place bet on Sky on the day and include him in that. Or of course a forecast. There are a few horses I have in mind that I don't think are good enough to win but good enough to place, horses like Stormy Ireland, Melon, Andy Dufresne etc that can slot into these place bets.

I would agree with this Ista, even more so how confident Harry Fry was on taking PP on yesterday.

Hopefully horse is ok, I do like him, but still think he has too much to find to turn things round with Pp

I love a place bet, most underrated way to win money at a Cheltenham festival worked brilliantly for me the last 2 years!

Very nearly backed him before and tempted to do so again. One comment would be that he nicked fair few lengths at the start yesterday which the commentators mentioned a few times. Interested to know whether people think this makes much difference over a staying trip?

I would think it was more that he was allowed an easy lead and allowed to set a slow pace for the first 2 1/2ml that allowed him to finish 2nd. I don't think that will happen in March and only then will we see if he is a stayer

                            • Still surprised you can get PP at evens. With Willie again giving the impression today that Benie is almost 100% going mares I actually think evens is a good price.

                              • If The Cap Fits is far from certain to take up his entry in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle after being “put in his place” by Paisley Park at Cheltenham.

Having made a successful start to his campaign at Ascot in November, the Harry Fry-trained If The Cap Fits was widely considered the biggest threat to Emma Lavelle’s star stayer in the Cleeve Hurdle – yet he could finish only fifth on Saturday.

Paisley Park is odds-on with most bookmakers to win the Stayers’ Hurdle for the second year in succession at the Cheltenham Festival in March – and Fry will consider sidestepping a rematch in favour of waiting for Ryanair Stayers Hurdle at Aintree, which If The Cap Fits won last season.

“He’s come out of the race with no issues – but we were very disappointed with the run, obviously,” said the Seaborough-based trainer.

“He was firmly put in his place by Paisley Park, who looks unbeatable at the moment. Do we want take him on again at Cheltenham, or should we avoid him and wait for the race we won at Aintree last year – where Paisley Park is not scheduled to run?

“There’s been no decision yet. We’ll take a breath and let the dust settle.”
