Elliott paid by Betfair. Elliott creates big headline and lots of traffic on the Exchange?

    Shock horror
Sad to say that was my initial cynical thought but if that was true then it was fantastic acting on his part. I think he would have convinced a fair few people.

This thread is not the greatest barometer because it is clearly full of people literally praying for the ground to be dry enough for Envoi Allen to run in Ballymore. The weather thread is the same.

My inkling is he will still go Ballymore but if he were to switch I wouldn't blame the trainer. I thought last season he was a potential Ballymore horse but the price was too short for me. This season it has been a different story, at least in terms of racetrack evidence. After Down Royal there was ample opportunity to cover any Ballymore bets at 20/1. If he does switch that's the decision I would be cursing.

    • He's always said if its heavy then he would switch EA.

The only thing that has now changed is that he has stated this at a Betfair Preview....

If he switches then so be it, I will have to take him on with what I've currently backed.

In the same way people are quick to discredit what he says because he is a Betfair sponsor. Maybe just maybe he is telling the truth because he actually feels it best for his horse that he move him. I have him backed for the Ballymore for what it's worth.
If it's heavy in the going, he could change.

I think he's said that all year... that's how I've taken it.

My comment was to discredit the theory he's done it for the stable staff to get on ....

Yes, done the same for a fair few bets, but it would be a hit for other horses in the Supreme more than anything else Which is my worry.

Yeah I agree. I don't think he cares about the stable staff being able to get on as he does about doing the right thing for the best novice he has currently in terms of his future prospects.

Envoi switching would be a disaster for me for this reason. Connections of Asterion Forlonge and Thyme Hill would surely be tempted to go for the Ballymore.

Anyone know when the latest road to Cheltenham was recorded? I'm watching it now and spending most of my time looking at the ground

Sorry Kev, I was talking retrospectively rather than about today, about my decision rather than what's happened. Mostly feeling relieved. Is this aftertiming? Maybe

As already pointed out though this isn't something he just said in a preview is it.

                      Nah it's not after timing.

I remember thinking people were wasting their time taking 20s for the Supreme but in hindsight they could lay off now easily enough.

If the ground comes up heavy I have bigger worries than Envoi Allen (probably)

                      • how would the stable bet 20/1? they didn't know the forecast and i doubt they were too bothered about £50 at 20's on bex.

They'd have known it was a huge possibility. The forecast didn't just come to Gordie's head as of last night.

The 20s wouldn't have lasted. Stable lads not bothered about £50 on at 20s? What?

the earlier forecast was dry it changed in the past few days.

well there wasn't even £50 tbf more like £30 and that would need to be spread out over how many stable staff? it's peanuts really and definitely not a factor in where the horse will end up.

                            • EA still headed for Ballymore IMO. Sat here in Chelts looking at bright blue sky and sunshine.

Alright GS you know it all.

I think you've missed the point in the whole thing. He wouldn't have been that price on the exchange if they were so sure he was going to the Supreme. Whether it was £10 or £1000 available.

The yard is a gambling one and won't have left behind 19/1 when he is a 4s shot or so now and probably much shorter if he does run.
