Yeah another good piece from Tony! No-one can be as confident with Townend onboard anyway, but i do think the fact he wasn't on for Leopardstown has given him more question marks. Worth considering for the folk that think Townend isn't very good (Humble Pie)...This season he is currently operating at a strike rate of 31% for ALL rides (305).
    Ruby Walsh last 5 seasons? 29%, 29%, 35% and 30%.

    Townend's not too bad.

I'm saying Asterion Forlonge would be shorter in the Supreme, and justifiably so, if Ruby was riding him.

You've lost me talking about Mt Leinster?

Townend chose or was put on ML for DRF. Trainer + jockey both implied it was because they thought he'd be better over further.

Ruby said he'd have ridden AF regardless. There'd have been quite a few less doubters over AF with Townend on board in Feb i think.

The point sounded a lot better when i was lying in bed watching Homeland

            • Glad asterion furlonge is in the race, personally think he will give abaracadabras a toe into the race. Bumper form seems to have worked out well from last year. First race of the season, jumped ok to me and won on the bridle, obviously wrong trip for latest exhibition but we all have to start somewhere. No disgrace in losing to envoi allen in the royal bond then glad he is coming fresh after the latest win

              • There's every chance AF could go off favourite, the market is getting closer to what it should have been a couple of weeks ago.

Quite possibly, Envoi Allen aside, he might well have the best form on offer but there are two big question marks - the ground and how much he will find off the bridle up the hill. He came to beat Envoi Allen in the Royal Bond but when it mattered most he pretty quickly waved a white flag. Blackmore rode one of her worst tactical races of the season when she tried to outspeed him on Latest Exhibition.

Yup AF extremely strong now in the betting. I expect the Mullins stable were waiting to see where EA goes before getting stuck in. With the weather looking alright over the next 7 days I'd say EA almost certainly goes for the Bally now.

                    • Watched the race at leapordstown back and im confident in AF now lookingg back at the bumper last year im of the opinion abacadabras just wont see out the finish as strongly as a galloper like AF shishkin still has alot to prove as AF is a grade 1 winner already. Only concern is the slight jumping to the right but the gallop he goes im ok with that!

Despite having done nothing wrong he's one of those horses that does absolutely nothing for me.

He won Britain’s only2M Grade 1 Novice Hurdle, but as it was for terrible prize-money, with a poor field in behind then we have no true idea of how good Fiddler is.

But that’s the same every year in Britain, until the programme allows for another Grade 1 (Ireland have three at 2M pre-Festival for 50K, 50K and 78K to the winner), and both are worth almost double the current British Grade 1 £26K first prize.

Every year the Irish will have the upper hand when assessing Grade 1 backform, but it’s the programme driving that, not the ability of the horses.

That's worrying he's saying that. On several of this other runners & in my opinion Fiddlerontheroof is not one of his better chances
