I personally had my doubts about Min and the Cheltenham Hill especially when he was closing on Altior 2 years ago and then Altior hit the turbo and stormed 7 lengths ahead of him to win but he’s definitely good enough to win the Ryanair off the back of his Aintree win. Different track I know but it was obvious that day he needed further to see the best of him. If we were debating his chances in the QMCC then yes I’d agree he’s not good enough to win it but I think the Ryanair will suit him especially if it’s run like it was in 2017 & 2018, Min has the the right speed, jumping and stamina to win it. He’s still very good value in the betting too at present.

Mins one entry in the DRF is the 2M1F Grade 1 a week on Saturday, with Chacun Pour Soi 11/8, Cilaos Emery 3/1, A Plus Tard 5/2 as possible rivals. Min is a 6/1 shot in that race, similar price to the Ryanair. His price for the latter would likely move based on his showing there.

Chambers did suggest they were both going. I'd imagine they won't though.

Yes, a Min DRF Win could mean a Defi type decision across the 2 races. Would scupper a lot of Min Ryanair bets if he won and went for the Queen Mum (not to mention that he would have beaten the same connections CPS too)

It's absolutely nuts that across England (nor Ireland) there isn't a Grade 1, 2 or 3 2M4F chase anywhere on a left handed track from the start of the season to the Cheltenham Festival. Criminally bad race planning.

I didn’t realise this but I suppose it explains why so the Ryanair market is so unpredictable and flakey, it always seems a b plan for most horses which for a grade 1 race shouldn’t be the case

Exactly this. There are no proper Ryanair build up races on LH courses all season, so the race gets an antepost mix of 2M, and 3M horses rather than having a programme of races aimed at the Ryanair as the target. They do it much better in all Novice divisions across 2M, 2&1/2M and 3M, hurdles and fences but haven't sorted out the 2&1/2M championship division at all yet.

We need to understand this when making antepost decisions on the race, this is where I think APT could improve again (already a 2M Grade 1 win LTO) when he gets his optimum trip and LH track.

Also this lack of decent LH 2M4F graded races could be one reason horses like Defi try the 2M programme.

The Ryan Air is the worst race at Cheltenham and should be scrapped. Its the joke race for the horses who are scared of gold cup or champion chase fields. The race completely ruins gold cups and champion chases.

Why not scrap all mid distances on all disciplines, Ballymore, Aintree Hurdle, JLT/Marsh, dont just pick out the Ryanair.


Probably need to get rid of 2&1/2M chase and hurdle handicaps too if you dont like mid-distance races.

Why does athletics have 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1500M, 5000M, 10,000M and Marathon?

Why not just have the 100M and the Marathon loads of times instead?

It takes away from the true champion races. You either understand it or you dont. It dilutes the quality of the races that make the Cheltenham festival what it once was.

2m 4f races have there place just not at the festival. Its all commercial and they just weaken the festival.

Some of the Ryanair flack is due to

* The name of the race it is illogical not to have the proper race name, with any sponsor added to the front of it.

* The lack of a Graded race programme leading up to the Festival over 2M4F, incl LH tracks.

You can understand what you are saying, yet still disagree with it Potato. Just an opinion.

I'd hate the rumoured 2 1/2 mile hurdle to happen as well. So maybe i am against the Ryanair to some degree.
