I'd say the best horse I've ever seen live at the Fez is Dawn Run. She won the Champion Hurdle against the best bunch there ever was and then won the Gold Cup as a novice. It'll never be done again. She'll do for me.

All about opinions but I doubt that the Champion Hurdle field that year is remotely close to being the best there ever was.

As for facts, she didn't win the Gold Cup as a novice. She won her first chase in the 84/85 season and missed the rest of the season through injury. She returned in December 85 and won the 86 Gold Cup.

Either way, her achievement is unique but somehow I never warmed to her or her owner.

Yep, you are quite right. She won the John Durkan in her first race over fences which is some feat in itself and then went wrong. She actually unseated the following year in her prep race in the Cotswold Chase and they decided to give jonjo O'Neil the ride in the GC which didn't go down to well with trainer Paddy Mullins (Willie's Dad) but the rest is history. Only horse ever to do the Churdle/GC double. She was a hardened beast

Completely agree with this. Don't have Defi as a 2miler myself. Probably won't back for either anyway.
