  • Does Altior even turn up at Cheltenham full stop? Not exactly had a great prep and he looked out on his feet after Ascot. Would love to see him turn up but we’ve seen the champion chase winner there. Chacun pour soi is that price for winning one race at the end of the season where Defi had a long hard season (albeit was impressive in doing so)

Surely Defi has already had a fairly long, hard(ish) season already though? Given it's only January, and compared with the others.

They'll come into the race a whole lot fresher.

      • For me the best thing to come out of DDS’s win today is that it now looks all the more likely that A Plus Tard has a bigger chance to win the Ryanair, if DDS is running the day before.

        • Its a cast eye guarantee he runs in the champion chase and has been since he won the Tingle Creek.

I think he will run in the Champ Chase though will be pulled up like Kauto Star was in his final gold cup.

A chance to say goodbye nothing more nothing less.

Defi in his novice season had fair amount of runs, obviously relishes racing , he seems not like other horses in that regard.

Race shaping up as though it could be race of the festival.

7 of the last 10 winners of the Champion Chase had 3+ runs prior to winning the race so its hardly a negative. He is improving as well. The banker of the meeting.

Everyone knows he turns up and wins. That's how it happens.

                    • Philip Hobbs has done some job turning Defi Du Seuil around the last couple of seasons.

                      • Just watched the race.
Won like I expected at Sandown, basically on bridle.
Probably won so well today that this race is highly likely now.

But although I'm a big fan and have had 2 very good results this season with him. Beating UDS and the others isn't the same as what he may face in March. Hobbs is right to see what happens and who looks like turning up and on what ground before commiting.
Although last year he didn;t wait till the very last minute so we may know the week before.

I don't think I'd back Defi in this on good to soft ground if the other players are in it. But he clearly has a great chance.
But I'd back him in the Ryanair without question.

Yep. Silver lining. Biggest challenge to APT now not going Ryanair. Happy Dayz.

Defi will 100000000000% go CC now but will still have to get past the beast Altior.

The other way round, altior has to get past defi. He takes a while to pick up the bridle and is held up.

Altior hit that flat spot last year against sceau royal. Defi is a league above. As soon as nicos getting stuck into altior, If defi is sent for home, it should be all she wrote.

I tend to go with the theory that the Altior win last season was jockey error and a steadily run race.
But I can see why people see him this way nowadays. He needs winding up earlier for sure, it's just wether anything can sit behind him at the pace he goes. Hopefully Chacun looks better next time too.
But in Altior, Chacun and Cilaos, thats three more worthy rivals than Old UDS.
