Agree. He was simply outstayed. Had nothing left at the end. He did not look as though he was about to collapse or anything. Just gone further than he wants to.

It was just that Nico dismounted and led him in as he was concerned that he'd never felt Altior that tired before. NJH confirmed that he had finished very tired and some were just a bit concerned, that's all.

      • Afterwards NJH said they are already looking forward to the rematch. It's fine margins at the top level in any sport and he was just beaten on the day.

Not sure which route they will go from here but certain this isn't the end of Altior and he'll win more grade 1's imo.

I'd still be tempted by the KG. They committed to going further at the start of the season and I think he deserves a crack at the KG.

I will be amazed if they still go KG. Hendo will not let that happen. Give it a few days and the correct decision will be announced. Altior is a great horse....let's not spoil that.

How good would that race be though. I think it'd be up there with the Tingle Creek all those years ago. I'm all about seeing the best horses race against each other, it's why I fell in love with the sport in the first place.

I'm all for the best horses racing against each other but in the correct races. Altior proved today he is a 2 miler. Run him against the best horses over 2 miles. The prospect of him v Chancun is quite mouth watering and one which Hendo will cherish.

              • Surprised by this fighting talk. Perhaps a bit sore about getting beaten? Or does he genuinely think it's worth a crack?

"We'll have to meet again, there's no doubt about that, and we're not going to lie down that's for sure. Well done to them. Fair play, they were fitter and better on the day, and we'll look forward to meeting again. Bring on round two!"The race went like we expected it to happen, and he's had a go at him, but he just got tired," said Henderson. I think that might be as it's first time out and on that ground, he was very tired. That's as tired as I've ever seen him.
He's still got the time to get to Kempton, and I don't see why we shouldn't, and we'll be having a long look at it. It'll be different ground on a different day and with a horse with a race under his belt."

He got beat 2 or so lengths by the highest rated horse in training. No disgrace.

Man City got beat off Liverpool, doesn't mean they can't beat them next time out.

                  • Difficult defeat to sallow... but been here before and will move on.

Still think he's the best horse in training when it comes to running at Cheltenham, nothing goes up that hill as well as Altior! ...
Minor concern is, has this race left a mark on him. Hopefully he comes out of his, and pick up a 4th Champ Chase!

                    • I suppose now he has lost then why worry about losing again

                      • Based on Hendo’s words and race planning for his grade 1 horses, and with the Tingle Creek being so close, I think, assuming it’s GS on Boxing Day, they’ll have a dart at the King George and then have a go at the Champion Chase in March.

He’d probably better try and win a 3rd one first!

                            • Altior is 100 percent , One of Jump racing's Legends. Amazing achievement, 19 straight wins.
No disgrace to be finishing 2nd yesterday to Cyrname .
However , at the age of 9 , we might have to accept that we've seen the Best of Altior.
Doesn't mean he's finished , I'd love to see him win any Festival race again.

Remains to be seen what is announced on Tuesday but Cyrname is only the highest rated horse in training in the UK (and don't let anyone forget it! ).
