The theory that Altior is actually a stayer, and just has so much class that he's been able to win at 2 miles for so long now is one I hope gets proven correct.


He won the Supreme looking fast, but that throws up stayers...and I completely agree with scooby that despite what Henderson says about how much pace he has, we rarely see it in his races.

It's impossible to have watched Altior in any 2 mile chase and not think visually he looks best in the final furlong... that is not the trait of a horse without stamina.

He probably still has a better turn of foot than loads of other horses, but he's still a stayer.

What's the general consensus on the champion chase price of altior IF he gets beat / wins tomorrow?


Currently 5/1

Shortens?

Stays the same?

Lengthens?

I think his price might lengthen either way (6/1). If he wins he's another step closer to not going for the race (someone might stick there neck out.

If he loses, he has viable opposition, his air of invincibility has gone, and he's already been taken over in the market by the hype machine of chacun pour soi. Unless CPS cant beat simply ned, then altior wont be taking favouritism back this side of the champion chase. Whether he clearly should be fav, or not.

It's hard to say he'd shorten if beaten.

Knowing the target would make him shorter than he is now ... he's only 5s as he isn't certain to run?


Someone will push him out. I don't think it'll last.

depends how he loses, or wins ?
If it's close, he's still ran a career best on paper.
If he gets beat 10 lengths then I reckon he stays same price, give or take a point.
If he batters cyrname without any excuses, then he may drift to 7's or 8's or bigger even.
It's a tough call.

I think it will depend on the performance. If he's only just beaten I think it will be enough to cut him for this race to be honest. Soundly beaten and he'll be pushed out I think.

depends how he's beat, if he were to be, if he travels all over Cyrname and doesnt see the trip out, i wouldnt imagine the QM price getting bigger

I think it will all depend on what Hendo says afterwards.
Outstayed by Cyrname beaten 3l and Hendo says we’ll probably go back to 2m and I don’t see him being bigger than 5/2 for the Champion Chase...

After he gets beat tomorrow and Hendo confirms he's going for the hat trick he'll immediately be shortened into 3's and then backed into 5/2 before the weekend is out. Cyrname will become the new 7/4 fav for the KG.

I think it will depend on the manner of Altior’s victory. Fairly sure Cyrname will go off and say catch me if you can. If Altior stays in touch and powers past him to win impressively (which I expect) then I think QMCC won’t change, and he will shorten for both KG and GC. If he wins unimpressively then I think his QMCC price will shorten significantly, and the other prices will stay the same until we hear from hendo

I I fully get that bet you was thinking, say cyrname drifts to 7/4 or so and altior is 5/1 for the qmcc. If cyrname gets a healthy lead, altior is out to the left and cant quite get there. Or even if he's beaten fair and square, hes still altior and you'd be delighted to be on at big odds for the QM.

But then again, I just can't fathom him being beaten tomorrow, he'll possibly look like getting beaten (In his customary fashion) and I can picture the warning signs early on, of him jumping out to the left, nico having to get at him, while cyrname is bombing on and seemingly travelling well within himself, but until cyrname crosses the line in front, I'll still be sat there fully expecting altior to pick him up and win.

Some expectation when you look at the last 2 races of cyrname, and altiors dislike for the track configuration. I'd take getting up on the line myself.

I haven't placed it yet I'm just really considering it.

I don't think I'd feel bad if the bet won though, I'll be disappointed anyway because I want it to happen more than I care about the bet?
