Princess Zoe lit up this year's much-changed Galway festival with a pair of spellbinding premier handicap successes and the hugely exciting mare could yet return to Ballybrit next month ahead of a potentially unique top-level double.

The five-year-old, who was previously trained in Germany, hit the ground running when joining trainer Tony Mullins this season, landing the Ladies Derby in ridiculously easy fashion at the Curragh before doubling up in two of the Galway festival's hottest handicaps.

A remarkable 101-rated improver*– having been rated 64 on her first Irish start*– Princess Zoe looks set for an action-packed few*months, with the Prix du Cadran under consideration at Longchamp in October before a possible novice hurdling campaign that could end up at the Cheltenham Festival.

"She has the option of Her Majesty's Plate at Down Royal on Friday or the Oyster Stakes at Galway the following Tuesday," said Mullins of immediate plans.

"There's also the Petingo Handicap on Irish Champions Weekend, but the timing and conditions of Galway seems to fit in better and at the moment we're favouring that option."

A crack at the Cesarewitch at Newmarket had previously been mooted by connections, but the French Group 1, worth €180,000, could prove more tempting.

"The serious reduction in prize-money in England has steered us back towards the Prix du Cadran," he said.

Princess Zoe may not be finished for the season after her high-profile Flat targets, with co-owner Paddy Kehoe keen on a tilt at the Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, for which she is priced between 12-1 and 20-1.

Tony Mullins: "There's plenty to be worked out and whether she'll stay two and a half miles is another thing, but I think she will"

Mullins said: "Paddy has had some very good horses for relatively handy money but never a Cheltenham winner. Grabel was placed in the Triumph Hurdle [in 1987].

"He has expressed an interest that regardless of her value and black type, if she jumps well he'd like to aim for Cheltenham. If she doesn't school well we won't persist, but if it all works out that's the plan."

He added: "She's been very straightforward and was ready to run in March but the lockdown was the making of her. Those extra three months really helped her."

Most horses in any Festival Novice Hurdle havent jumped a hurdle before the season starts. So that’s no drawback. 20/1 left in a couple of places last night, I haven’t checked today.

Prep run for the Cadran in the next week, goodness knows how much the price would be clipped if she then ran close in the Cadran on Arc weekend.
