This years Arkle looks pretty weak.

Last year I was confident with Cilaos Emery and then Le Richebourg but this year I haven’t a clue.

I’ve got a few at high prices with some free bets but I don’t fancy anything at all.

Perhaps a big win from notebook in the Irish Arkle would make him the clear one to beat and add some clarity to the market.

With all these front runners who look likely to run, I looked for a horse that could travel well in behind & stay on as the leaders hopefully burn each other out. That led me to backing Brewin’upastorm.
However I’m still convinced there’ll be a springer, something so far unproven like maybe precious cargo. It’s some puzzle.
I like the logic of that but is Brewin being aimed here? Haven’t heard much on him in a while. What’s his plans, does anyone know?

Kingmaker then to the Arkle is the plan I believe.

          • Surprised PP/Betfair go as big as 13/2 for Fakir, would be a telling sign ordinarily being one of JP's, however they are still as big as 10's, although not top price, for the JLT.

Does anyone think Annamix could be of interest still? Late starter (over fences, for the season), but then so was Cilaos Emery last season, although he never made it due to injury.

It was a taking performance, beating some horses with form lines against some of the horses near the head of the Arkle betting.

Lightly raced over hurdles, with a hyped reputation (mostly because of the owner/trainer) combo, but as noted previously on here, was always one that would prefer a fence, based on breeding.

33/1 seems fair based on that sole one performance, and would hope is one we could see again, possibly mid February (same sort of time Duc Des Genievres run last season would be ideal), prior to the festival. I've taken the 33's and am inclined to take the 16's NRNB, as not going to be that if he puts up another performance like that next time out and makes it to the festival.

            • Don’t see how anyone could have Fakir over Notebook for this.

Easily the best of the Irish and I have him as my Tuesday banker

I agree. Think Notebook will take all the beating. Clean round of jumping and We should be filling our wheelbarrows

If Notebook goes for the Irish Arkle and wins that well then hes going to be pretty short for this I would have thought. Nothing from this side of the sea is enticing me in at the moment but will have an EW play before the Tuesday.

                    • Any news on getaway trump? Is he heading back novice chasing or being kept for Scottish champion hurdle? Heard conflicting rumours. Any news greatly appreciated.
With regards notebook and fakir, I have a sneaky feeling result may be reversed if they meet again. Funny scrappy race round a greyhound track and I think best ride won, not best horse. Just my opinion, but djingle caused a false race.

                      • I think Melon and Brewin’ will both by right up there for this. Would not be surprised to see them be the top 2. Notebook’s jumping is great but it would a remarkable improvement from the Hurdle form to win an Arkle.

Footpad wasnt a star over hurdles and look what he did in his novice campaign.. 2 totally different disciplines

He was a star. 2nd in the morgiana. 4th in the CH. Won the 2m grade 1 at auteuil beating device who was unbeatable at the time.
                            Absolutely no comparison to notebook.

Footpad was the highest rated hurdler To go chasing. As were the 1-2-3 in the race.

Agree. Not saying it’s not impossible, just needs a big improvement and more often than not the Arkle is won by a horse that had a higher novice hurdling rating that 135 or whatever Notebook had.

I know he was the highest rated going chasing. Don't know anything about that Device but the rag Zubayr was only 1L 1/4 back in 3rd that day and then after that being only 1.5L in front of Adrien Du Pont isn't 'star like' quality.

Notebook the one to beat as of now but could all change after the Irish Arkle
