But who knows he could win the champion hurdle. The dreams alive today anyway.
I don’t think he’s even the best juvenile they had in the yard last season.

Even with the injuries to Saldier and Buveur D’Air, I haven’t a clue why Pentland Hills is as short as a single figure price.

    • Yep, we will know a fair bit more about Pentland Hills this weekend. Without a clearcut win then the shouts will be out again for all sort of horses to be rerouted to the Champion Hurdle.

Has anything more been confirmed with Saldier other than he didn’t come out of the race how Mullins would have wanted? I’m hoping it’s not a major setback... not seen anything else?

          No, nothing further. Fingers crossed

          • Pentland Hills price is surely due to the owners group thing.
Lots of shareholders putting smallish stakes on.
            Not serious money I'd say.
Good laying opportunity though for those that play that game.

            • The Australian horse Big Blue is hard to weigh up but is very nicely bred and his flat form was far superior to Pentland Hills.
Very interesting runner at 33-1 for Saturday.
              Definitely something different.

I think they've lost the plot. But it's great to see, imagine an Australian raider winning the CH.

I hope someone has paid for them, as it's far worse money for far harder races. But good fun all the same.

                • Initial view, although I'm sure it will change come saturaday morning

Ballyandy - struggling to find a angle
                  Big Blue - really?!!!
Call Me Lord - Right handed, flat track.. na
Ch’tibello - I actually think he goes well fresh. Champ Hurdle wide open if this wins here
Elixir de Nutz - I really like this horse. Connections looking to go champion hurdle with him, great.... so why the second entry the week after in a bloody handicap! What the hell is that all about!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That's really put me off this horse
Gumball - meh. Should put in a decent round
                  La Patriote - meh
Monsieur Lecoq - Another one that could sneak a place
                  Umbrigado - Na

Pentland hill - Apart from Elixir who I really rate, Pentland is the only other on in this field that could line up in the Champ Hurdle and run a big race. However, how many times we've seen winning juveniles come out into open company and get put in their place!

Is Hendro firing... can Pentland come out and win in open company on his first appearance this season. It's a messy race with what could be another over hyped 4 year old or a potential star. At the price, I think I'd rather look else where

Disappointing. Oh well, will have to just max bet in him in a handicap

                      • The one huge bonus for Pentland is that Henderson does really well in this race

                        • How short are they going to make Pentland Hills after beating Ballyandy and co?

I can feel myself talking myself into laying him after the weekend as im forced to put my money where my sausage fingers are

Kev, this race should be a major Champion Hurdle trial, but it has a dire record, you couldn’t make up how bad it is as a pointer to the Festival race.

I’ve been to watch the International for the last 15 years and no doubt more than once thought that I may have seen the Champion Hurdle winner, but in reality the race seems to have lost its impact in recent years as the Irish Grade 1’s in November and Christmas, and the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth and Christmas Hurdle in England have dominated.

Only Rooster Booster in 2003 in the last 45 years has completed the same season International-Champion Hurdle double. The last double up before the Rooster was Comedy of Errors in 1974.

History tells us that we probably need to look at the race on Saturday in isolation as a 2M1F Grade 2 Hurdle and forget the Champion Hurdle.

This seasons renewal looks more threadbare than normal for CH clues, if Elixir Du Nutz skips the race then currently Pentland Hills is the only entry currently under 50/1 for the CH.

One day I hope to watch the double come up, but I don’t think it’s this year, unless Pentland Hills runs a big one on Saturday.

                            • That just stacks up my plan to lay him if he does win as it'll be over rated as a piece of form?

Obviously depends on what price he goes. I could well back him at the weekend

If he wins they'll cut him regardless, but anything sub 9/2 would be a bit of a joke IMO.

I'd agree, that he would be a lovely lay option though
