I’ve been to watch the International for the last 15 years and no doubt more than once thought that I may have seen the Champion Hurdle winner, but in reality the race seems to have lost its impact in recent years as the Irish Grade 1’s in November and Christmas, and the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth and Christmas Hurdle in England have dominated.

Only Rooster Booster in 2003 in the last 45 years has completed the same season International-Champion Hurdle double. The last double up before the Rooster was Comedy of Errors in 1974.

History tells us that we probably need to look at the race on Saturday in isolation as a 2M1F Grade 2 Hurdle and forget the Champion Hurdle.

This seasons renewal looks more threadbare than normal for CH clues, if Elixir Du Nutz skips the race then currently Pentland Hills is the only entry currently under 50/1 for the CH.

One day I hope to watch the double come up, but I don’t think it’s this year, unless Pentland Hills runs a big one on Saturday.

Any ideas why? I was thinking Elixir would be my e/w bet in CH & 33s with Hills looked good, was planning on backing ahead of this weekend but may hold off now. Is it because Warner runs Gumball in the International too?

The more I look at the betting for the CH - there are several in the top half of it who won’t run & thought EDN would have a decent chance of at least placing. Cheltenham form is 1,1,2,6 which is more than can be said for others ahead of him in the betting...

He is probably targetting him there as he's on a mark possible to run in the race and be competitive unlike Gumball?

Worth noting the prize money is more for the handicap too- so having a runner in both is probably the owners desire.

Thanks - Tizzard’s said CH is target so I’m becoming more inclined to back him e/w at 33s ahead of him potentially winning next time out & 16s then being the price. Didn’t realise the handicap would have more prize money than the International!

I wouldn't let that put you off. The owner is based in England near FOB and couldn't get over to Ireland much, so its a simple case of moving closer to it's owner. FOB has identified the race as the target and there are plenty ahead of him in the market that don't jump anyway near as low and slick as QG, so 66/1 EW looks alright, especially when looking at the top 20 in the market. 2 have set backs, 6 are going chasing, 6 are highly unlikely to be good enough, Honeysuckle will probably go mares (should go here) and then you are left with Klassical Dream, Sharjah, Pentland Hills, Fusil Raffles and Coeur Sublime. The supreme form is questionable and Klassical Dream was beat first time out, Sharjah was also beaten, I personally don't think Pentland Hills will be good enough and Fusil Raffles and Coeur Sublime are more unknowns that could emerge, but its definitely open that's for sure.

He shouldn't be winning a CH that's for sure. Iv no idea what sort of form they'll have him in 1st time up, but handicaps are ruled out now. So should be trying atleast.
Hes reasonable opposition for a horse like pentland hills who's come from nowhere and won a triumph. Then followed up at aintree. Very hard to tell how good pentland hills Is compared to a solid 2m handicap hurdler.

Chtibello is an 8, going on 9 year old handicapper, that is hit and miss IMO.

I'd expect Pentland Hills to take care of him. Call Me Lord would be the one I'd be interested in of the rest.

Five of them in the syndicate, so £2k a man (assuming shared stake), £2k on 3's is not a ball buster tbh.

Don't expect Unibet to take much more mind, my experience with them is limited though.

I don't know the guy, but pushing figures out on Twitter like he's a big cheese tells me enough.

Agreed, just thought it was interesting. Wouldn't make much of it, there's even a chance, it's been done on purpose..

                          • Tizzards remind me of the family off the fast show that were constantly pissed.

Native River also mentioned for king george.
Thistlecrack now considered for long walk and not king george.
                            Off their faces.

Agree. Think they just stick the RP on the wall and throw darts at it to decide entries

Tbf once id seen the entries I'd have done the same. He likely thought there would be a bit more there. As I thought myself.

Its easy to say for tizzard beforehand. But maybe he should have kept quiet until he saw them, he has to talk about something in his blogs though and that's what he was thinking at the time.
