Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

I would love it if you could donate using the link below to access my project page. Any contribution large or small will be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

  • The last time this race was torn apart through injuries and lack of talent or form.

Buvuer D'air reverted and after one easy prep race, went on to win the race easily.

Apologies if someone's mentioned it already (I know I did a few weeks back even before the recent events).
But surely the connections of City Island will have had the odd glance at each other.

The negatives are that they appear to be set on him needing a trip.
But class is class and it didn't stop Faugheen.

The Ballymore winner would normally be one of the first on the list for this race. And no matter what his form was in Punchestown. His win at the festival was very impressive, against horses that have not really disappointed much in their races since.

It would actually be easier for him to do it than Buvuer as he's not even been out yet.

    33-1 PP is tempting.
No one going big on exchanges or I would have.

        "Out for some time".

It's on his unibet blog if you have a keyboard and google.

Or you can click this link if you have a mouse or sausage finger.

            • It was confusing because the headlines said 'Saldier setback' but what Mullins actually said was he wasn't 100% pleased with him post race. Open to interpretation of course, but one is definitely not the other in my book and it was the best 'bad news' I could have hoped for.

Yeah as long as that's actually the full truth of the issue. I'd say if he wan't 100% pleased with him + still expects him to be out in the NY, he'd have thrown an entry at Xmas anyway. Hardly that much of a difference timing wise. Knowing the trainer's previous.

I disagree. Willie knows the horse runs well fresh, so why risk it - could just preserve and go straight to Cheltenham.

If he did want to get another run into Saldier, the New Year doesn’t have to mean the first week of January either, could be the end of jan/beginning of February. So 5-6 weeks is a considerable amount of time difference

This is WPM and entries, your view is a sound one and one i'd agree with- i'm trying to read between the lines.

                    • Wont mention this again coz i ranted a little too much yesterday, but Ill be shocked if he runs at Chelt for the reasons stated yesterday and on this page by others.

                      • Yeah fair one mate. Perhaps I’m looking at it the other way, when I’m looking for my positives that help me think my best Antepost position to not be going down the pan. I think it’s good we’ve had some information quickly, unlike other instances. I mean last year with Cilaos Emery we were told he’d likely miss the festival and true enough he did, appreciate we are earlier in the season, but WPM hasn’t got close to suggesting that for Saldier yet. We’ll see

                          Google tells me

At the toe, it takes between nine and 12 months for hoof horn to grow down from the coronet to the ground surface; at the quarters, six to eight months; and at the shorter heels, four to five months.1 Feb 2002

                          no chance imo.

True, and it's very possible he's just not pleasing, but i'd assume there has to be something more than him just not pleasing in his work since to rule him out to at least the NY.

Guessing here, but i think whatever it is has him on the sidelines for the near future, but they hope he can make it back for Spring.

Agree with this, purely on the basis of what Mullins does with his entries. Something must have come to light with Saldier, hence the no entries. Would be very odd to not run a horse because he wasn’t pleasing, as some have said what if it changed in the next couple of weeks and was working well, no entries.

Happy we have had at least some news on him but I’m of the view he has had a small set back but nothing that will rule him out the festival. Of course time will tell.

                              • Saldiers next likely target would be the Irish CH on 1st Feb. Entries likely early Jan so you should have a clearer picture then. Wouldn't be surprised myself if they went straight to Cheltenham
