The 4th that day Turnpike Trip finished 4th next time out behind Not So Sleepy giving 19lb on unsuitable ground. I have just backed Turnpike at 25/1 for the County.

Next up was the Irish Champion on ground that was officially yielding but times suggest good - as opposed to Sunday when the yielding was more like soft. He was caught a bit flat footed at the 2nd last but ran on well and would have beaten Honey in another 20yards. The horse stays 2 1/2 miles well. Supasundae was over 4l back in 4th.

The horse has improved from winning a handicap of 106 @ Wexford in April to a rating of 152. Although an 8yo he has few miles on the clock. And consider the trainer
Yep pendil- agreed. Improving anyway, Kinlock Brae didn’t agree and didn’t like how I compared him to Not So Sleepy price wise

Off the front, relentless galloper. Unexposed over hurdles and improving. In a very weak division, I’ve seen worse 66/1 shots. Each way at that price. I’m tempted.

70s with the boost.... in the words of Eddie Heard... Ohhh go on thennnn

Can’t knock that price MOM that’s for sure!

He wins today and probably goes fairly short.....8-10’s possibly?

It really is a shocking decision! Take 3 out the top 4 from the betting (BDD honey and Envoi) it’s abysmal it’s going to be like trying to find the winner of a handicap!

I backed the horse at 33/1 before its comeback run, and Joseph said the run could be a write off and is much better than what the horse has showed. Also was the ground just too soft for the horse to run since it was heavy and Haydock not the best of tracks for horses to run at?
I was disappointed with the comeback. I know it was first race for about 10 months but was hoping to see a bit more. Very ground dependant as well, but don't know how well he could come on for the run. Entered in the ryanair as well but I assume with only one hurdle race more likely to come here?

I think abysmal is being kind.

What is the maximum field size? I have in my head that it's 24 but not 100% certain.

            • This race really does look absolute toilet at the moment, I was clinging onto some thin hope that Saldier may come through but I can’t have Epatante at the prices as all her form to date has come on flat tracks & she disappointed so badly last year. I’m aware of all the reasons & not saying she can’t win but she was running off 137 in a handicap 2 races ago & is 11/4f now. This has to be the year for someone to roll the dice. I’d love Gordy to run EA or Aba....even Samcro ffs. I like Supasundae from an ew angle & I can’t believe the Donnelly’s wouldn’t consider putting one of their’s in this (Shish, AF or Melon) at suplimentary stage. Aside BDD, any other left field suplimentaries anyone can come up with?? I’m sure Alan King can’t wait for Katchit to loose his ‘worst ever’ CH title come March!!

Ok, just come out of the shower having spent 15 mins thinking of complete left field ideas for this race....how about this one:

                    Cilaos Emery

Still a relative novice over fences, fell last time out in big league, won a G1 over hurdles as a novice, will end up running in arguably the best QM for a while where chances of winning are lower than in this, trainer now thin on runners in CH. Could run him in a prep (Red Mills) - if I were racing manager to connections I’d certainly pose the thought!!

                    • This race is crying out for a top novice.

Abracadabras might have a harder race in the Supreme against Shishkin and Asterion than he would in the Champion. Gigginstown were excited about a tilt at the Champion with Samcro as they ostensibly buy future staying chasers - could Abracadabras give them that thrill?

Equally Envoi Allen would be extremely tough to beat in this surely.

Splinter I like your left field angle and hoovering up any ridiculous prices on the machine wouldn’t be the worst idea, but damn CE winning the Champion- it just doesn’t feel right does it

Agree with everyone who is on SupaSundae E/W- an absolute no brainer.

I hate to admit it but it really is starting to look that way.

Lol, if it wasn’t for the fact he was trained by Hendo I’d actually think this might come under serious consideration!!

                              • Stormy Ireland has looked good this year and showed decent form at the trip.
If the 2 mares stay put, then Mr Sullivan might have a ponder also.
Probably have as much chance placing in this than the mares.
