The race Want of a Nail won and the other races you mention form a series of 5 novice races in France. As you say the form can be suspect but some of France's very best hurdlers over the years have emerged from the races. It can work both ways. Noel Meade thinks a lot of the horse she beat 18lengths in Ireland and she (Harvest Bow) duly came out and won her next race by 12 lengtgs.EM says he always thought FF was smart but that she would make a better hurdler. Think that with the change of ownership, she may well be given a break now and be saved/ brought back for the trials/spring festivals. She may not turn out to be good enough but I'm happy to have her on board at her current price.

I've followed Harvest Bow on the flat for sometime Lobos since Meade has had such a good flat season. She's a stayer really, the race today at Thurles should suit her lovely. FF was in a different league to her that day, but whether that's going to be festival form i'd doubt.
Though as you say Lobos, at the price worth a go.

The point is she's about to run in France again and end up in the cambacares against the geldings/ colts. Her price wont change inbetween, or immediately within seconds after a race at auteuil. Whether it's a grade 1 or not. she might get stuffed and a bet now be worthless for example.

Her price could dip in the meantime should connections come out and say which route they are taking/race they are targeting. Happy to take the risk/price now. 22/1 any race in the bag and move on to the next project!

Think they may well give her a rest now as been on the go for some time. They were planning on a trip to America for one of their big hurdles next month but hopefully that plan will be shelved.

Around 10 or so years ago, before the big investment started in juveniles, Alan King used to have a good record in the race. He has a horse called The Olympian who has been sold to J.P. McManus and this could be the horse to bring him back into the mix again. He’s by a new sire with no jumps progeny to reference but he looks like he could be a nice type if they go jumping.

Now that I’ve read that The Olympian is due to go hurdling I compile a full profile:

1.) He’s raced three times on the flat as a 2yo from August to October 2018. He’s as yet unraced as a 3yo.

2.) His best performances were over 1m 2f which I feel is the minimum for a flat horse going jumping.

3.) He has a rating of 88 but the horse he lost by 3/4 length to (Pablo Escobar 103) went on to run second in the Lingfield Derby Trial and was 5th in the King Edward VII. The Olympian is very unexposed and could easily achieve a higher rating than 88 in my eyes.

4.) Despite his investment in France and no doubt O’Brien horses, JP McManus has decided to add this horse to his ranks.

5.) Although he no longer dines at the top table, Alan King knows how to win a Triumph (2005 and 2007). Is his recent lean spell due to suddenly becoming a poor trainer or does he not have the same ammunition anymore due to the younger brigade on the scene?

6.) He has focussed on the flat more recently and has had 26 winners in 2019 which is a fair record for a dual purpose trainer. The fact he now has more flat horses means he’s more likely to unearth potential juvenile hurdlers.

At 50/1 with cash out I think this will be a nice little position to take, even if just for speculation.

At that price it looks a good spot. I spoke to Kingy over summer about Olympian, he and Anthony Bromley owned him and they sold to JP which is why he hasnt run on the flat again. They both joked that he was the Triumph winner, but it was very tongue in cheek. For Kingy to sell him though to JP youd have to imagine that hes well above average and time will tell if hes up to winning a grade 1.

Doesn't look the strongest renewal as obviously hipsters is out. If le berry doesn't get done by the experience of for fun, he could well be the most talented. Nirvana should be well enough held here as better ones start to go into the graded races. Nirvana will be very likely well beaten in the cambaceres. When the good ones all merge together.
