Was I happy with a low risk lay at 1.5 on a horse who hadnt won for 2 years was coming back from a long term injury and was unproven over the trip? Yes of course, the lay was completely justifiable and it was a fair enough bet.

Does every bet you make win?

    Are you 10yo?

Pathetic my friend thouhh I hope you felt powerful trying to belittle somebody on the internet for a losing bet.

I can assure you if all of your lays are at those odds on horses with that profile you will make a good profit.

Ouch. Im embarrassed for you not me.
    Nothing Elegant about that reply.

How do you know Jon didn't do the same lay as you and the 'ouch' was because he got burnt too? Just an assumption you've made though, that he was digging at you.

I don't see any belittling other than what you have come back to in reply to be honest. You'd struggle to have such a strong opinion on something, for it then to lose and for someone not to say anything, I think many of us on here have had that happen to us, part and parcel of the game, especially when broadcasting it on the internet.

Your reply was totally unjustifiable IMO.

If he was saying ouch because he had place layed it then why would he feel the need to copy and paste my post?

We all know that it was done to try and belittle me no matter what clique you are in.

      • Im completely correct to put him right. If im not then basically you are saying its fair game to belittle people who post opinions before the races.

If you accept this as being acceptable then your forum isnt the great place you think it is and people will be discouraged from offering opinions pre race.

You all know im right here no matter how many of the clique claim differently.

Your comments are inflammatory and you may very well be in a minority of one?

              • Let’s calm down chaps, we should be able to mock each other when we make grandiose statements that don’t pan out. It’s a great feeling when a curve ball comes good as rare as that it but put yourself on a soap box and expect to be heckled, it’s part of the pantomime. I actually agreed with your post about Douvan before the race but never had a chance to back it, like many I was pleasantly surprised he won and it’s a good thing he did, we love superstar horses and want to see them on the bill in the main events. I do enjoy reading your posts on here ET, as left field as they may sometimes be it keeps opinion varied. I interpreted JtH’s comments as a rib tickler and not meant to offend. I did laugh when I saw the comment, it’s banter mate, nothing more. Keep doing what you do best ET and don’t get angry buddy, it sours the good vibe we have on here

Im not angry and I have thick skin. I just think its highly unsporting to feel the need to mock somebody after the event. Pre event come and disagree or rip my arguement apart absolutely fine with me and how it should be.

But to come on after like that purely with the intention of belittling/goading a reaction isnt in the 'good vibe' of this forum.

Now thats 2 pages of trash I suggest people go back to the gold cup which is what this thread is apparently about.

We all have enough intelligence to know full well had this been in reverse and I saw a member have a losing bet and I copied and pasted it with some lowly comment mocking it that exactly the same people would come on and have a go at me and tell me that wasnt in the spirit pf the forum.

                  We all know this.

                  • As the 'self proclaimed' voice of reason.

I'd say that any after timing/crowing at someone after the event (unless discussed specifically by the individuals prior to the event) is probably in poor taste.

However, ET, you do stick your neck out on occasions (not always), and often in what could be perceived as an irritating style.
I'm not saying on this occasion that was the case. But the fact is that you do it sometimes.
So. I think some of the others are correct in saying you could have taken it a little less seriously, which is how we have to interpret many of your posts.

Basically I think you've both been naughty.

                    PS.
And I'm just glad I didn't copy your original douvan post with the comment

"I think someone needs to phone home"

Which I was going to do yesterday, but decided against it.

And I see the joke's been used today anyway.
                    So well done Cod

                    • I'd have been annoyed if Douvan had lost, and somebody quoted my case for him just saying 'ouch'.

I'd certainly have wanted an explanation and hope it'd have been in good taste.

He wasn’t the best-fancied of our runners in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but he gave us a day to remember with our first win in the race. Because of the dry ground for much of last winter he ran only once before the festival when winning at Tramore on New Year’s Day. He'll have plenty of entries and the ground situation is thankfully different this year, so there should be plenty of races to choose from. However, it’s quite possible we’ll take the same route back to the Gold Cup by running him at Tramore again.

He was a revelation last season, winning three Grade 1s including the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup in which he beat our Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Al Boum Photo. He’s in good shape and we’re hoping he’ll have another successful campaign, although when and where he'll reappear will hinge on the issue involving his ownership being resolved. He was unlucky to bow out at the first fence in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and hopefully he’ll go back there in March and fare better.

We didn’t know what to expect when he went for the Clonmel Oil Chase on Thursday considering how long he had been off the track, so we were absolutely delighted to see him win so well. Plans will depend on how he comes out of the race, but it was a very encouraging effort. He might not quite attain the heights he scaled in the past but on Thursday’s evidence there should be more good days to come if he stays right. He’s in the John Durkan and the King George, and will have other entries over Christmas. Whether we stick to 2m4f, try him over 3m or go back to 2m is very much up in the air.

I’m hearing murmurs that Douvan could take a crack at the King George with a view to getting runs into him whilst he’s fit and healthy. He’s entered over 2m4 on Thursday and if he comes through that well it may become a serious consideration. Backed down from as high as 650.0 on BF into 27.0 as well. Could be be a GC player if fit and well?
Vintage Mullins. Despite saying after the race he’d be more likely to step back in trip he now reopens the possibility of stepping up....

KG sounds a real possibility again doesn’t it... I know the horses are fragile and it’s a long way to March but if I was Ricci, I’d want a plan. Chacun appears to be the Champion Chase chosen one and we know that Min’s max is 2.5, so why not step up with Douvan... what have they to lose?
