Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

    • Ok Ice thanks, I thought so, was wondering is this might affect prices, RABS etc. New management may have other ideas. Just a thought.

      • Ferny Hollow is into 3/1 any race with Skybet.

        That is hilariously short.

I'd be in two minds about whether to even back him to make the festival at 3/1.

Gallopin Des Champs is 3/1 to win any race with skybet. That’s insanity

Has to be the worst of the lot.
Horrific set of prices this year from Sky, the effects of being part of the PP
              empire maybe....

I laughed when I saw that. I do think Gallopin Des Champs is a tool though. When you look at where RSA winners come from, we may have seen one in the winner of the AB, but I'd doubt there is one in behind. The Ballymore first looks to have too much speed with the 2nd and 3rd viable candidates. I cant see anything coming out of the pertemps barring maybe Imperial Alcazar, which leaves the Martin Pipe, and he's pissed up. 40/1 with Unibet was a stonkingly good bet IMO, even this far out.

Don’t forget the carnage at the first flight where a couple of potentially very good horses went down, they could easily progress on to be graded horses but I agree the winner was impressive...

                    • I’ve backed Bob Olinger, Energumene & Ferny Hollow (All AR) at 100/1. I’d fancy all 3 wherever they end up.

                      • Just noticed Bob olinger, Honeysuckle and Sir gerhard is 50/1 with sky and those 3 with shishkin added is also 50/1.

                        • The first one with Honeysuckle is to win the CH, the second one with Shishkin added is any race. I had looked at that a couple of times before I spotted the CH.

                          • 50/1 for any three horses to win 51 weeks out is still terrible, those are the sort of RABs that were 200/1 a year ago.
Shishkin, Abacadabras and Envoi Allen was 200/1, Captain Guinnes, Notebook, Aspire Tower was 225/1 for all to place.
At best Sky are off their game, at worst they're taking the piss....

For me, any special that includes more than 2 horses is fraught with risk and not worth it. 50's, 100's, 200's is designed to suck people in, and there are literally thousands of scenarios that will stop a horse from running the following year, and its just too easy to end up with dead bets (as I learnt with Thyme Hill). If people really want to do these now then I'd stick to a formula of backing only any race so the element of being jammed up by targets doesn't happen. Stick strictly to two horses and no more to reduce the incidence of non-runners. Find horses who have won at Cheltenham because that's worth its weight in gold, and find horses who have an injury free past. Stick to Willie, Gordon or HDB horses and pick races they dominate. The only special I can find that ticks all these boxes are Sir Gerhard and Bob Olinger to win any race at 11/1. That's super skinny to put it lightly this far out, but I'd sooner stick half a point on that once a month for the next 6 months than spread 3 points out over 100/1+ specials that includes horses who don't tick the boxes I've mentioned, and have to win a specific race.

....I understand the logic, but I found 2 separate 200-1 RaBs & I imagine some found others. Folk shouldn’t be put off by a price. Admittedly, one involved just two selections, Bob Olinger/Appreciate It to win a/r @ 200-1 (backed on 18.05 & again on 20.06), the other involved 4 selections, Monkfish/Bob O to win Entoucas/Saint Sam to place @ 200-1 (backed in Jan).

Perhaps it was ‘just one of those years’, or maybe leave the bigger multiples until nearer the day.

I think many of these early RaBs involve selections who could easily meet in the same race (Envoi/Monkfish) & that’s what Sky are hoping for. Hills had quite a few where the target was clearly not the race they were offering.

There will be the odd one that offers value to some, even with more than 2 selections but you have to be selective.
