Longhouse poet (NH chase) Fakiera (Any race) Mohaayed (Pertemps) Quilixios (Triumph hurdle) Melon (Ryanair) All to finish in top 4
My big concern is Melon because I still feel Willie wants to run him in the Gold Cup. How about asking for the same bet with Melon "any race" or Melon in the GC. What do you think?
Whether it's GC or Ryanair Melon's got a solid chance of finishing top four - but it would be tragic if this bet fell down because Willie chose the slightly less likely option.
Although IMO it's probably 50-50 as to which race he runs in.

Sorry Charlie but I beg to differ.
Melon travelled unbelievably well in the Savills Chase and would have won had Patrick not hit the front way too soon. As it was he finished 1 1/2 lengths bhind APT who is now second favourite for the GC.
I think Willie believes he could win the GC with Melon and wants to give it a go.
By my reckoning his chances in the GC would be at least equal to his chance in the Ryanair.
I'm such a dinosaur I still don't know how to request these specials but I'm happy to give it a go if needs be.

You may well be right CCM.
But we are talking the Gold Cup here.
And all I'm saying is that on the basis of what Willie has said since last year's Festival it is still a distinct possibility Melon will go for the GC.
The cost of covering that eventuality is pretty small compared to the potential reward.

If Melon wins there I'd say the Gold Cup is still on. If he doesn't, the Ryanair, which is currently probably the favoured option, will in my opinion be a near certainty if ABP is fit and firing.
Ruby said after the Savills that Melon was running like a two/two-amd-a-half miler with the choke out and will have learned a lot from the experience ....ie he will settle better next time he tackles 3 miles.
Whether or not he does settle will probably be key to deciding his Festival target.
