That has to be a poor price.
The betfair chase will be a competitive race and the Gold Cup is shaping up as a belter, I might get interested at 50/1...

It's not far off being a good price.

He's favourite for the Betfair Chase at 7/4 and 14/1 for the Gold Cup.... but if he wins you wouldn't get 14/1....

Even and 14/1 is still 28/1, so it's not value as it is, but IF you like LIT, I can definitely see why you'd back the special.

He's on the cusp for me.Some very good judges I know are telling me I should be taking 14/1 now, but I'm not sure yet

          • LIT would not be on my radar. He did run a very good race this year but just think it was run to suit. The slow pace would have helped him get home. I don't think he looks a proper GC staying type to me. His run in the JLT v Defi showed he had a lot of pace and he's excelled on flat tracks over 3 miles and 2 1/2 around Cheltenham. His win in last year's Betfair Chase was also on unusually quick ground for that time of year. I'd be very interested in him for the Ryanair but think that the Tizzards have already made up their minds to go for the GC. I think he'll get found out if next year's race is run at a proper pace

Your first two sentences, with the last sentence - contradition.

IF it's not a strong run race, then does he have a chance?

He does but slow run GC's are unusual so he'll be lucky to have 2 in a row. Part of me thinks Melon will run in the race to ensure pace for Al Boum as he is an out and out Stayer and Mullins is desperate to grab a third GC for him . Whilst Boum won off a slow pace this year they would prefer a faster run race for him as he is even more effective off that.

Melon will not be a pace maker for Al Boum Photo will he?

Do they need a 4x Festival runner up to be a pacemaker for a 2x Gold Cup winner?

Sad state of affairs if they're both not running on merit pal.

As I said, I just think Mullins wants to join in the record books as a triple GC winner. I see no other reason why Melon would go for the GC. He's not a GC horse for me. Willie is desperate for Boum to win again which is why I'm so keen on him. Everything will be done to help him get there and I think he will.

Melon would be going for the Gold Cup on merit....he'll be given chance along the way to show if he stays 3m....if he does, no way he's a pace maker or there for ABP's benefit.

I disagree that he is desperate for ABP to win again. I think he would love any horse to give him a 3rd win. If Melon beats ABP to the Gold Cup, and you think Willie will be disappointed, you're dumber than you come across

With Melon running in the GC they'd have a natural pace maker. His normal style of running at Cheltenham is hard from the front anyway so it's not as if they'll be doing anything different with him. He'd be absolutely perfect for a strong pace for Al Boum. If you think Mullins wouldn't he disappointed if Melon beat Al Boum to stop him being a triple GC winner then you are dumber than I think ! He would be gutted but I suppose it'll still be a decent consolation. It won't happen though !

Watch that Betfair Chase back LIT won. That race was as big a staying test as any Grade 1 run last season. He beat BDM by out-staying him.

I have and he did win well. Haydock is a flat track though , complete opposite of Cheltenham and the ground was nothing like it normally is in November.
