  • Paul Townend to be Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey @ 5/4 has some juice in it no? He had 5 winners and was top jockey in 2020, and look at his rides this year:

    Al Boum Photo - fav
    Monkfish - fav
    Chacun Pour Soi - fav
    Concertista - joint fav
    Appreciate It - fav
    Min - fav
    Shewearsitwell - fav

Not only are the above 7 very well fancied favs, 5 of them have either winning or very good festival form, and that's before you add all the rides he'll pick up on promising sorts like The Big Getaway, Hook Up, Asterion Forlonge, Ciel De Neige etc

I was thinking about this last night. Ruby was a penalty kick and always got as much on him as I could, a market i have great success in. However, a couple things maybe I'm taking as risk factors:

Irish Travelling - im a bit more optimistic but its still a possibility his "good" things don't travel

Covid - What if he tests positive for COVID? I know its always a risk with injury, think ruby got crocked day 1 one year and still ended up winning, thank fuck for Ruby Tuesdays!

Both incredibly valid points that I'd say pretty much render my post redundant!!!

(less so the Irish travelling over but the Covid point is a good one. If I took 5/4 it would be with a 10+ stake and Covid could just kill it dead. I can find better 5/4 shots than that, so best left)

        • I’ve just played one with a Sky free bet, not sure if it’s been mentioned.

Bob Ollinger, Column Of Fire both any race 125/1.

Similar to the one a while back with Monkfish and The Bosses Oscar, same price, one novice one handicap.

          • Just had a look through skybet and found 2 at big prices I thought were worth a free bet.
Bravesmangame (BNH), Chacun Pour Soi (QM), Zanahiyr (TH) to win & Min (RC) & Thyme Hill (SH) to place at 250-1. The win treble is best priced 45-1 with sky and 40s or lower elsewhere so your getting roughly evens each on Min and TH to place.

The other one is The Bosses Oscar, Shan Blue, Melon, Latest Exhibition, Kilcruit all to place any race at 200-1. The any race option give flexibility to Shan Blue, Melon and Latest Exhibition, while Kilcruit and TBO look to have solid chances.

250/1 seems more than fair for this.

                        • Envoi and Monkfish both to win, Appreciate (Supreme), TBO (Pertemps) Thyme Hill (Stayers) all to place @80/1 is another that caught my eye and I had what I could on it.

The win part of that bet is likely to be less than 3/1 if they both make it.

                            • Obvs it’s hard to knock these bets at such high odds but I struggle to back anything with over three horses in. I’m hoping for a reverse jinx here but the amount of non-runners we’ll likely see over the next 10 weeks will likely scupper a high number of these bets before the silent roar of the Supreme getting underway

...agree, it’s part of the criteria I use, although I admit to wavering on a few and I think the famous CoF offer last year included 4 selections.
