Would have to go back and look at results, but I know from memory last couple years always been 2 finishing well clear of the field. Dont recall one being that far ahead of everything though in recent times?

Me neither BB. Thought the price was pretty horrendous value

        • I've added Royal Pagaille for this @ 10/1. My fear for Galvin was a mid 150's possibly higher horse avoiding the RSA and coming here as a clear class angle. I don't think RP will be good enough for a Gold Cup, but if he wins this weekend and wins well what does 10/1 become for this? 5/1? 9/2? Outright fav? Ultimately he looks like a much better horse this season and in those RR silks the shortening on it will be mental off the back of a good run this weekend, so getting in the book at a double figure price as cover for Galvin. Everything can change, he might run poorly or not at all, but if he does the business then I'll have the top of the market cornered (for now!)

          • The rating I have for Royale Pagaille is off the charts for a novice Charlie. The last time I had a rating anywhere near his for a novice was Native River and Un Temps Pour Tout at Newbury in 2015. The rating I have for RP is 2lbs ahead of that race though. He's a monster. And for perspective one became a rare back to back winner of the Ultima and the other a Gold Cup winner.

The Gold Cup is too much too soon though I think, but if his jumping holds up (he can be a bit flat and guessy at times), I'd be confident that he beats Galvin. I reckon only the fences will beat him.

Galvin is still my best result though, but I've added to my original bet before the weekend so my return is now close to my Galvin returns. And by the day of the race he'll be my biggest winner.

For anyone that hasn't latched onto just how good he is yet, his price will have gone after this weekend, and I strongly advise getting him onside.

....Hills were 33-1 Royale Pagaille to win Peter Marsh & a/r at the festival. Not seeing the weekend offers now, assume they’ll be back up if Haydock is on.

Good write up Spectre. Were you mad keen on him before Kempton or is it purely the Kempton performance that got you to take note? I'd like to see him perform on a undulating course but that is unlikely to happen before Cheltenham.

He'll need to be better than Native River if he's going to land the NHC

                • He was on my radar and in my tracker from Haydock FM. He easily dispatched a reasonable field first up in a decent time. I didn't expect him to take such abig step forward at Kempton though. Yes he's never been tersted on an undulating course, but he's been to Chepstow which is a big galloping track. It is an unknown though.

Native River was given a shocker in that National Hunt Chase. Mikey Legg wanted shooting. He was on easily the best horse, and if he'd taken the race on like Native River wanted to, he'd have absolutely pissed up. I'm still feeling the pain today!

Absolutely. I can only imagine how annoyed CT would have been. Having secured the booking of DoC, then for him to switch and have to watch him go and beat him up the hill.

I haven't covered RP. Galvin is easily my biggest winner of the week at this stage but your post is making me nervous.

Is the Ultima a possibility do you think ?

                        • The NH Chase will be easier to win, and he'd be giving a lot of weight away to a dark one if he ends up off a mark that ends up around 160 (156 now). i can't see how they could convince themselves to go for any other race than the NH Chase. They won't take on Monkfish in the same ownership and he won't be switched. The NH Chase will be the easiest race to win of the three.

I'm confident enough that I haven't used nrnb for my initial bet or my top up.

I doubt it. Why shoulder 11-12 against a better field when you can carry 11-6 in a worse field? In terms of the more winnable race I'd certainly have it down as this.

I love a bullish write up, warms the cockles

Now I've backed him I obviously want him to win well this weekend, just not too well if you catch my drift

                              • I’m a fan of RP and will get him on side before the weekend. My only worry is that he’s not the most fluent jumper. To win this you have to jump and stay - he definitely stays but he can be a little low at his fences - anyone else worried about that?
