  • He got a hefty rise, but that was after the 3 mile handicap where he lost by a length and a
    half 3rd

Yes, even though the Irish handicapper put him up from 132 to 136 for that run, the UK handicapper laughed at that and gave him 7lbs more on top.

      • I agree with some of the pundits on Fakiera, he seems to be one of these horses who is always running on after being out paced at the finish regardless of trip. Surely has to be tried ridden more handily.

        • Fakiera shortening probably due to Gentlemansgame statement

It was also tipped up by Tony Calvin on the Betfair podcast late yesterday.

            • Are the quotes about Gentlemans Game to be more likely to run in the Ballymore from after his first run or the weekend?

weekend, and more likely to miss the FEZ alltogether, but ballymore would be most likely as Mouse thinks the bartlett bottoms horse's.

                • That's disappointing. Surely got to be tempted for the Bartlett when he sees how open it is especially compared to the Ballymore.

Sounds like just the thing Mouse would say even if it was 50-50

I think he would go off near fav

I think his reasoning was pretty fair.

He thinks it's all about next season (chasing) and it's not uncommon for people to think the AB is bad for their horses.

So if he wanted to go the Ballymore, what chance he turns the form around with Gaillard Du Mesnil?

I backed him for the AB about 30 mins before the news so it is disappointing, but no hope to cling on to.

                      • Had the same debate regarding Ashdale Bob and Fakiera last week but he left the former over the extra 2f on Saturday.
When they turned in he had to go wide and recover 10l but at the line he was 2l down to the placed horses but eating up the ground and would have passed with ease in another 100yds.
Fakeira struggles for pace when the taps are turned on but stays all day and the AB is all about staying, last year was a funny race with 4 in contention up the run-in which is not the norm in this race.
I just hope he is no more than 3l down between the last 2 hurdles.

                        • Still like Stattler for this

Feel that he was ridden on the front end to give Gaillard a decent pace to aim at

Certainly not given up on him

                          • Fakiera is fast becoming my main fancy for this...
(Thanks to whoever highlighted that 14/1 was still available on the Any Race market, long after her had been cut to 10/1 for the AB)

On more than one occasion he has been finishing like a train over shorter distances and I think that he will not only relish the extra couple of furlongs, but the hill and the stiff finish to boot.

                            3rd November (2m) - kept on strongly, run-in (1st)
22nd November (2m4f) - made challenge towards finish, led final strides (1st)
                            18th December (2m4f) - stayed on run-in, went second towards finish (2nd)
6th February (2m6f) - ridden and headway after two out, went fourth from last, kept on well

Yes. His target is not "nailed on" (he could easily go MP if any UK tax isn't too much) - but even more reason why the Any Race price was steal at the weekend

                            • Strikes me as the type who will always get outpaced and run on into the places no matter the distance

one of those frustrating le breiul types who always makes it look like he will win next time

He is the right favourite at this point.

He rode from the front to see if he could stretch them, and win, and he paid for it late on, leaving the others to get closer to him.

Ridden differently in the Bartlett, he remains the one for me.
