  • Stattler entered on Sunday at Thurles to run in the 2.6m novice hurdle won by Monkfish last year before he went to Cheltenham. Was mentioned by Patrick Mullins the other week I think on Road to Cheltenham as well. Opposition could be Clondaw Secret, Gentlemansgame.

Gordon’s going to end up with multiple entries in a number of races - given Gigginstown have the front 2 in the betting for the M Pipe already - they surely aren’t looking to put all 3 of there’s together?
Yeah, I'm not as convinced as some that Wide Receiver won't be a graded horse yet though... shame he got that stone bruise.

      Hopefully runs in the DRF.

I don't think we can get too committed just yet.

              • I’ve updated Key Race 4 after the Final Declarations at Thurles on Sunday.

There is a horse following in Monkfish’s winning form from last season in this race, and this was Monkfish’s last race/victory before a win in the Albert Bartlett.

Three or four interesting runners for this race on Sunday.

Check out the Irish Race Planning thread for January in the Diary Section for more details.

                • Anyone know if Thurles will be rescheduled? Was looking forward to seeing Torygraph.

I would think so yeah. They've been rescheduling all cancelled meetings.

                    • Torygraph is in the final decs for Wednesdays rescheduled Thurles card.

Original race fav, Gentlemansgame hasn't been declared this time.

Monkfish won this 2M7F Novice Hurdle on his last start before the Bartlett, last season.

Surprised by that, but for the antepost docket that's me happier.

Sadly won't get 11/4 this time!

                          Currently rated 132?

More likely to be a handicapper, no?

Dortmund Park / The Storyteller style more than Monkfish?

                          • If he wins well enough he'll probably be around 140, then you've got the UK handicapper to factor in.

Gordon has quite a lot to split up this year, particularly his staying novice hurdlers. You can see him havng a few in this potentially. If Torygraph runs an 'honest' race at Thurles it'll probably be a good indication for where he goes. He looks an out and out stayer though so I'd say here or the Pipe, and he seems to have that race covered. I reckon this is probably a run to see if he's on the boat or not.

The Storyteller and Dortmund Park put up RPR's of 148 and 149 when winning this race, I would settle for that, a win and an RPR at the top of the scale for current Bartlett hopefuls.

Torygraph's only ran twice over hurdles so far (RPR 143 second start, is high, Fakiera took 6 goes to hit 146, and Farouk D'Alene 3 runs to hit 145), and Gordon has nothing in the Bartlett shorter than those two at around 25/1 at the moment.

Of the many horses ahead of him in the Bartlett betting that may come to the race as a first preference, their current RPR's are

                              betting order
                              Stattler RPR 139
                              Ashdale Bob RPR 150
                              Fakiera RPR 146
                              Farouk D'Alene RPR 145
                              Gentlemansgame RPR 124
                              Does He Know RPR 142
                              Shadow Rider RPR 134
                              Clondaw Secret RPR 127
                              Holymacapony RPR 140
                              Crosshill RPR 137
                              Gallyhill RPR 135
                              Eskylane RPR 134
                              Gabynako RPR 142

Torygraph RPR 143 doesnt look out of place, already, c/w those higher in the betting than 40/1.

I liked his second start, looks all over a stayer based on his first two runs, so I think he is placed in the right race this week.
He has won whilst Gordon has largely been under-par with his results too.

Is he an Albert Bartlett candidate? - no-one could be sure of that, until after he runs on Wednesday.

But if he won, then its going to heighten the possibility that he will be entered for it, and he would likely go shorter than Fakiera and Farouk D'Alene.

Its 1/40 that he isnt the Bartlett winner (40s best price), so I may be applying cashout post-race, if he doesnt win and/or improve a bit more for his second go at the trip of around 3M.
Currently he is a stone better than the other three in the race on RPR's.

The same step up could apply to Fighter Allen for Willie in the same race (40/1 for the Bartlett, three runs best RPR 129), a win and he becomes much more interesting for the 3M Novice at the Fez.

it’s under 27th Jan banner, although the race date/time is as originally scheduled.
