    That’s really useful. I didn’t know that, thanks for sharing Was holding back adding Barbados bucks as Cheltenham hasn’t been the be all and end all in recent seasons but will now the target has been confirmed.

      Cheltenham hasn't been "the be all and end all" because PN hasn't had a decent Novice/Juvenile to go to war with for many years now. BB could be decent, but I wouldn't be investing in any of his hurdlers at the festival. Fastest way to to the poorhouse imo.

        Why is that? He’s proven time and time again that he can get horses ready for the big day. And while I accept he has more of a reputation in recent times for the big Saturday handicaps he has won so many races at Cheltenham that being trained by him is hardly a negative.

        I personally wouldn’t disregard a trainer the calibre of PN so lightly. He’s not Warren Greatrex!!

          He tends to get aspiring chasers sent to him and he often takes a softly softly approach with them over hurdles not wanting to bottom them before they start the job they were bought for id guess

            That is true but he tends to avoid Cheltenham all together with them so I would argue it’s positive he is sending BB here.

              I don't think he looks quite good enough myself, although he is improving.

              And you've come up with another brilliant slogan for merchandise in the Fat Jockey shop.

              "He's not Warren Greatrex !!"

              I suggest a picture of Paul Nicholls in full red faced effect, as his horse crosses the winning line first.
              With the above slogan beneath.

              Fans of Willie can have the same.
              And a Gordon one.
              And even dear old Nicky.

                    HE,

                    He's certainly no Warren Greatrex that's for sure. I think you can add quite a few English trainers to WG list dodging any sort of dual against the best horses at THE Festival.
                    Having not won the Spud race before it is indeed a positive that he sends BB to this race. I do think BB could be very good & could well end the Trainers poor record in this race.

                      Yes I agree, Paul Nicholls actually has a pretty good tally of hurdles victories at the Festival, 18 this century. Big Bucks accounted for a few of them so PN knows rxactly what a staying hurdler looks like and he's had a few Novice hurdle winners as well.

                        The last decade (non handicaps) novice/juvenile races at the festival.
                        Supreme=1 winner 2011
                        Ballymore=0
                        Albert Bartlett=0
                        Triumph=1 winner 2011
                        So the last 9 years he has a grand total of zero victories in the above races. Not a trainer to be invested in imo.

                          All true, but he did have a couple of Fred Winter (Boodles) winners and I think it was Au Ptit Soins he sent to the Coral Cup as a novice on debut about 4/5 years ago...

                            What has Nicholls run in the Albert Bartlett of any note? I actually can't remember anything he's run in it.
                            Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

                              Bardados Bucks would be my guess

                                Ista,
                                They are handicaps. Yes he is very capable of getting something ready for a handicap. When you look at the likes of Mullins, Elliott, Henderson, the future stars tend to go through the novice route, hurdles & chase and on to the blue ribbon races. Its not something PN does, hence you have plenty hanging their hat on Frodon et al.
                                I just don't see him as a trainer (successful as he is) who brings them through in the same way as the 3 trainers I have mentioned. So he's been one to avoid in the races I have pinpointed, thus saving me money.
