It stuck with me at the time, as made sense in the fact that you just cant WIN every race, if you can get the occasional win and have good enough judgement to hit the cross bar, (therefore getting out of a losing race with your money back via a place) more often than not. You'd be a very successful punter.

I'd personally feel it would apply alot better to non handicap races.
...some nice winners last March but also a few decent priced placed ones, not least thanks to you in the Mares Novice. It helps to get some pay back from a selection like that.

I've tended to go more each way on races where there is sometimes less than 8 runners, or around that.
And also in races where it looks like there is going to be a strong/short priced favourite.

It only works for longer prices, say 16/1 or bigger, and the only time I used it last season was Delta Work at 16/1 (any race) the day before he made his seasonal debut. Something like a ratio of 2pts win and 1pt ew for that one but the ratio will vary with the price.
It's a very sensible mathamatical approach.

I agree with everything people have said so far on this topic.

If a race is "likely" to cut up I'm more likely to go each way
If I fancy more than one in a race I tend to go each way
If the price is less than 16/1 I shy away from each way until NRNB

My aim is to get the 1-2-3 in every race. Picking 1 winner of 28 races in November is impossible, so I look to 'build a book' in races I feel lend themselves to it and will assess at different points in the season. (It's not actually 28 races at this side of Christmas as handicaps don't really count yet)

          • Bob And Co in the Foxhunters betting. Brought by David Maxwell, and likely to be ridden by him too, clearly desperate for a festival winner. Has Shantou Flyer also.

Regular graded performer over in France, though failed to win one, he's been sent to Paul Nicholls. Has form ties with the likes of Bipolaire, Saint Goustan Blue and Bapaume, he'd have been racing above the level of the Foxhunter field as it stands.

14/1 with WH, going to have a small go on him.

David Maxwell was interviewed on course on Twitter yesterday after riding a winner and said Bob And Co was his number one horse for the Foxhunters.

The interviewer even mentioned Maxwell’s number one pick from March, Shantou Flyer, but Maxwell ignored the chance to talk about SF and continued to champion Bob And Co.

Interesting. The form is right up there, compared with the other potential runners. I guess Shantou Flyer is his back up ride.

I have both covered now but will cash Shantou nearer the time if all seems well with Bob And Co.

                  • Thanks Scooby.

May moan about his riding, but love a confident owner!

                    • Shantou Flyer was higher rated a year ago than Bob And Co is now. His OR now is over a stone less.

David Maxwell having a number 1 pick for Cheltenham is as relevant as when Jermaine Jenas retired from international football.

Whether you believe relevant or not Kev, he’s enjoying his job and there’s no bullshit from these type of people as we get with some owners / trainers
